May 1, 20223 yr I’m happy enough with this pick. Backup TE was a sneaky need and we were not going to find a starting CB or S at this point in the draft.
May 1, 20223 yr We drafted someone with so many concussions he can’t even recall how many. It’s possible our 6th rd pick may not be able to report on time, for the right team, or at the right location.

You sign him to a multi-year deal with a low year one cap hit. Then when Brooks files his retirement paperwork after June 1st there is going to be some more cap space opened up. Maybe that explains everything - we have a deal agreed w the badger that will be signed june 1st - like the deal we did w nelson. Maybe that’s why we didn’t need to take a safety. 🙏

I think that in part is what Howie is counting on. He said as much prior to the draft. Of course they may all suck but I'm sure Howie is hoping at least one or two don't suck too much.
May 1, 20223 yr If nothing else the last two drafts have made two things very clear. 1. Howie has finally learned that good players from good conferences typically become good NFL players 2. They are all about drafting for value, not forcing needs I really like this pick. They could have forced a need pick in the secondary but instead went for a home run in the 6th round. If not for the concussion issues and retiring from football for a year, this kid is a 3rd or 4th round pick. He has legit talent. Assuming the concussion issues are far behind him he will probably be the team's 2nd TE right away this year. As far the firefighter thing goes. Keep in mind that the other guy wanted to be and was a firefighters while he was playing. This kid became a firefighter when he thought his playing career over, and then went back to football. Big difference.

I've seen people whine about not getting anyone in secondary even though CBs got taken from Eagles on a couple occasions and it would have been bad value to settle on a CB who isn't worth it.
May 3, 20223 yr I feel like this guy can be a good role player for the Eagles, if the concussions don’t become an issue.
May 3, 20223 yr I get that many of us expected to get more pertinent positions addressed. But, I like this pick as another potential weapon on offense. He has great athleticism and can bring a great skills to the TE room.
May 3, 20223 yr So Hurts and this kid played at Oklahoma together. I'm starting to believe Jalen Hurts had a an impact on the draft process. Drafting players he has played with, and his best friend. Hmmmm
May 3, 20223 yr So none of the doctors said he couldn't play because of concussions. It was his choice. He says he had couple minor concussions. He decided to step away. https://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/video/grant-calcaterra-nfl-draft-philadelphia-eagles-april-30-2022
