REPORT: EAGLES AGREE TO TERMS WITH UDFA BRUISER AHEAD OF ROOKIE MINICAMP

Another running back has joined the fray ahead of this weekend’s Rookie Camp.

According to reports, the Eagles have signed UDFA Jerry Howard Jr. out of Towson.,

Before joining Towson, Howard spent four seasons with Georgia Tech totaling 858 yards and 7 TDs. He then transferred to Towson, where he rushed for 932 yards and averaged 4.9 yards/carry in 2021.

As of now, the Eagles have Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Kenneth Gainwell and Jason Huntley on the roster. They need some size in the backfield, and the 230-pounder could serve as a power back for short-yardage situations.

"I feel that I can be an all-around back. I’m big enough to be a power back and fast enough to run around the edge,” Howard told NFL Draft Diamonds.

"I’ve played in a run-heavy triple option as well as playing an air raid scheme back in high school. Two years ago at Georgia Tech, I was used as a receiver coming out of the backfield.”

Corey Clement type with a touch more shiftiness and athleticism.

4 years and only 858 yards at Georgia Tech? Doesn't really inspire much confidence that he'll have a legitimate chance at actually competing for a roster spot.

Please - more like LaGarette Blount type.  I've been waiting for the team to sign a bruiser like this.

He has the advantage of size over Huntley and Kennedy Brooks. Unless an NFL guy separates from his team, this could be the big back we need on the roster.

I just looked at the signings listed on the Eagles website. He's not listed. I wonder what gives.

He's a little smaller than Blount was coming out. His running style reminded me of Clement and his competition in the CAA wasn't top shelf by any means. I hope he's great, but he has some big tests to pass before he can be crowned our missing power back. We'll see.

No agility to stop and cut. Not elusivse and has 4.6 speed he also has minimal production at a small school.I just don’t  even see a comity back

He's not fat and slow enough. We need a Levon Kirkland size bruiser to pound nose tackles head on.

He can probably carve himself out a role on this offense as right now the team doesn't have that bruiser. They need that kind of RB to wear defenses out, control games and for those short yardage situations.

I hope the report is accurate … not because I think he is a promising prospect (TBH I don’t know a darn thing about him).  I just like having competition and someone with his measurables is a nice addition to the mix.  If he can demonstrate that kind of running style that Blount brought (and even Howard to an extent), shows decent ball security, and can be reliable in pass pro, he may just have a shot of sticking around (even if on the PS initially).

This article states he wasn’t "signed” but rather was 1 of 19 players invited for a tryout.

But this one said he was signed - same site and writer:

This one also said he signed.  Who knows.  Let's see if he even makes the team if signed:

Wow, eagles fans are so starved for a power back that they are anointing a guy who had minimal production at a small school and runs a 4.6 but hey he weighs 230 and I'm sure there's a video of him running through a wall somewhere...

I'm not going to say this guy has no chance but little premature to say this guy is the answer at power back👎
