This one hurts, but I suspect the Eagles knew Weidl was on his way out a few weeks ago after his brother was fired.  All the more so that he left for a lateral job and not to be the Steelers GM.  The Eagles front office was really cleaned out this off season.  Wonder how much of this is Howie's doing after reading that Lurie is giving Roseman more of a free hand to run the team this year.

Assistant GM hurts a lot more than if he left for a GM gig. #2 in both places so makes you wonder what gives. Wonder if there was some fall out with him and Howie.

Guess. writings been on the wall on this one when they fired his brother

Why did they fire his brother? Probably justified. Or at the end or close to the end of his contract with the Eagles.

Something was going on, like insubordination or poaching of Eagles staff.

Weidl going to Pittsburgh for AGM? Not great, but he wanted to leave. The Steelers also have money. Anyone have details?

Never got the sense that Andy was happy here. And now we know he wasn’t: he’d rather work for Omar than work for Howie.

So a new crop of execs-in-training come to the Philadelphia proving grounds. It happens.

All that for an assistant GM job?  Seems more like a lateral move than anything else.

Just more fuel for the "nobody likes working with Howie" fire.

More like he was pushed out.

He was at his ceiling here in Philly ... he could have viewed this as the next step to becoming a GM somewhere else (having Assistant GM on the resume in addition to VP of Player Personnel surely helps).  It does stink losing him ... we had 2 consecutive solid drafts which is exactly what we needed - a 3rd (especially with an extra 1 next year) would have really set us up nicely.  Can only hope Howie learned some valuable lessons during his time working with him.

Well if it's any consolation, we did manage to land pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt, as a result of the Steelers hiring their other internal candidate Omar Khan instead for the GM job.

Hunt was also in the mix for the Raiders GM job and previously interviewed for the Bills Assistant GM job, so it's not like we picked up a guy that wasn't in demand.

His official title hasn't been revealed but he seems like a strong candidate to take over Andy Weidl's role here based on his resume.

Pittsburgh is a team that seems to always draft well, so hopefully this is a positive addition.

We would hope.  There was a piece I saw on BGN and it laid out all the front office departures and additions so far this offseason.  Eagles look like they're cleaning house.

Wonder what prompted that.  For the first time in some time we had 2 consecutive pretty solid offseasons. Unless we weren’t necessarily cleaning house but more dealing with our personnel folks getting poached by other teams.
