Eagles reportedly hiring former NFL, Temple WR as scout

As the Eagles reshape their scouting department this offseason, they’re adding a local product from South Jersey and Temple University.

The Eagles are hiring former NFL receiver Rod Streater, according to Neil Stratton. Streater is expected to be an area scout for his hometown team.

Streater, 34, played high school football at Burlington Township High School before eventually playing at Temple. He went undrafted in 2012 but carved out a nice career for himself in the NFL.

But in October of 2018, while with the Browns, Streater suffered a season ending neck fracture on a punt play as a gunner. The fracture to his C3 vertebrae ended up ending his career as a player, but Streater soon became involved in a different way.

The Browns brought Streater back as a scouting intern in 2019 and in 2020 gave him a job as a scouting assistant. Now, Streater will make the next jump in his career for the team that shares its stadium with the Temple Owls.

"Let me attack this thing," Streater said to the Browns' website in 2019 about his transition into a scouting role. "I always liked looking at players when they played, just like, 'Hey, I think this guy is going to make this team.' Or I see a guy in camp that makes me go, 'Hey, he has the skills, and I think he's going to make it.'"

Streater played receiver and defensive back at Burlington Township High School, but he was undersized and didn’t have any offers after he graduated. So he went to Alfred State, a JUCO program in New York, before going to Temple. After he went undrafted in 2012, Streater landed with the Raiders.

In his seven seasons in the NFL, Streater played in 55 games with 21 starts. He had 127 catches for 1,755 yards and 10 touchdowns. His best pro season came with the Raiders in 2013; that year he had 60 catches for 888 yards and 4 touchdowns.

I mean over the last few years their scouting of WRs hasn't been the best. I know they drafted Smith and that looks like a home run but then again he was the obvious choice.

Thank goodness they went with the obvious choice ... for once.

You can say that again.

Oh, and they stayed out of the PAC-12 too. Win-Win.
