May 23, 20223 yr I'm in my 30s, so Lasik made more sense for me. Those of you in your late 40s or 50s should check with your eye doctor and see if it's worth the cost. It can help, but I think the doctor that did mine said there are diminishing returns as you get older.

I know that my vision is getting worse. For the first time ever, I added vision coverage to my work insurance. LOL @schmoopie needs to read and sign the check at dinner for us, my up close vision has gotten that bad.

My contacts are 8.5 - I can’t even shower without my contacts or glasses. I have been wanting to do it for years - contacts cause damage to your eyes so I really should just do it already.

I think if you wear contacts, you have to go with glasses only for a few weeks before getting Lasik. At least, that was my understanding back around the time I had it done.

I couldn't read the menu! I was like, uh oh, this isn't good. I said to my wife, "Is the print extra small on this damn menu?" She said "ummmmm nope". LOL

He usually has a Groupon available that makes the price reasonable. I think mine with the Groupon was $1,000 total, including a couple follow-up visits (but it was 4 years ago, so I kind of forget).

And I’m too embarrassed to use the glasses app on my phone. So half the time I just ask @schmoopie "You know what I like, what should I get?”

I then put one in my car, one in my living room, one in the kitchen, one at the office for work, etc.. This way I am covered with readers whenever I need them. Kinda pathetic. 🙃
June 1, 20223 yr Author I haven't heard any negative feedback from asking people. Everyone has said it's worth it. The money I'd save from not having to get glasses or contacts will be great I want to do it but I literally just bought a new pair of glasses recently lol I'm also pretty scared because I've seen too many horror movies

At your age, you should get a vision exam by an opthamologist and get checked out for cataracts. If you need cataract surgery, very often the replacement lens that is inserted in your eye gives you excellent vision.

I can still read most menus and stuff though, mine are not that bad.
June 2, 20223 yr My wife had absolutely horrible vision her entire life. She wore thick lenses and contacts. She couldnt see for ish at night even with glasses on. The glare from street lights was blinding to her. After 3 years of trying to talk her into Lasik she finally agreed and had it done in 2017. Best decision she ever made. She now see's ALMOST perfectly with no need for glasses or contacts. 1 thing she has an issue with is specifically BLUE neon lights at night time. If a store has blue neon lights on the sign, she cant read it. Aside from that, perfect. She had her eyes dilated with a numbing solution and said she didnt feel a thing. Total cost, both eyes, South Florida. $3,500.

June 5, 20223 yr I had lasik back in 2002 and I just now needed to get glasses again last year (age 45 only for close up reading). I had terrible vision my whole life prior with astigmatism and they didn't make contact lenses for that back in the day. My insurance didn't cover any of the cost at the time and it cost like $4k or so if I remember correctly. The surgery itself was painless and only took a few minutes. The longest part was waiting for the numbing drops to take effect. Like others here have stated there was an eyedrop regimen for the next couple weeks and it was hard to resist rubbing my eyes for awhile but that was the worst of it. Easily one of the best decisions I've ever made.
