Posted May 20, 20222 yr Brandon Graham: Jonathan Gannon will 'open it up' more with improved personnel Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have had, arguably, the best offseason in the NFL and Wednesday's one-year, $10 million signing of Pro Bowl corner James Bradberry was the icing on the cake. Last season, under first-year defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, the Eagles finished the season with a 16.4% blitz percentage, second lowest in the NFL. Angelo Cataldi asked Eagles veteran defensive end Brandon Graham if he thinks Gannon will change his philosophy with the improved personnel on defense. "I really do," Graham told Cataldi on Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show. "I believe that last year a lot of guys suffered from injuries and he probably had a plan to do certain things and bam, that happened. And I feel like this year we got a whole bunch of people. I'm excited man because I really do feel like he gonna open it up even more just based on some of the stuff that I know of what we've been doing." The addition of Bradberry gives the Eagles one of, if not the, best group of cornerbacks in the NFL to go along with Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox. Graham says the defensive line and the secondary go hand-in-hand. "It gives you more time and with the rotation we have, you should see how much times we almost got there just because nobody took away their first read," Graham said. "Pass rush goes with the coverage, once the coverage takes away the first lead the d-line should be there. And then sometimes the d-line affects the throw and the coverage gets the pick, so it kind of works both ways." The Eagles have added Bradberry, linebacker Haason Reddick, rookies Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean, and linebacker Kyzir White this offseason on defense. Offensively, the Eagles acquired star wide receiver A.J. Brown, signed WR Zach Pascal, and drafted center Cam Jurgens. Needless to say, expectations are high for the 2022 Philadelphia Eagles. https://www.audacy.com/94wip/sports/eagles/eagles-player-believes-d-coordinator-will-open-it-up-more
May 20, 20222 yr I hope BG is right! We've added a legit pass rusher in Reddick. A run stuffer with tremendous athletic upside in Davis. They have potential at LB for once and now we have one of the best CB tandems in the entire league. Oh and BG is returning in a potentially more flexible and versatile DL front.
May 20, 20222 yr This may be the most exciting offseason for the defense since we signed Jevon Kearse.

Before I scrolled down, I literally just said this out loud to myself........alone.....in my office.....with nobody else around. I cracked the bourbon a little early today. Don't judge me.

May 21, 20222 yr It tough to interpret Graham's insight since he is such a positive guy......the eagles added speed and talent to the defense so Gannon has to adapt to utilizing the skills of these guys and hopefully he can do that.

Gannon is highly rated across the NFL it seems. This year he needs to show us why.

True.......maybe he was cautious last year in knowing the limitations of the talent he had to use......but by adding Davis, Dean, White, Reddick, Bradberry and getting Graham back, he may be able to be more creative and more aggressive.

And that may well be the case. I still don't think that can excuse him entirely though to be honest. He did the same things over and over against above average QBs.
