REPORT: EAGLES WERE IN TALKS WITH NICK FOLES BEFORE HE SIGNED WITH COLTS

Former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles is headed to his sixth team, agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with the Colts.

Before signing with Indianapolis, however, the Eagles reportedly had talks with Foles about a potential reunion.

The interest in Foles is puzzling from the Eagles’ perspective. They added UDFA QB Carson Strong following the draft and still have Gardner Minshew on the roster behind Jalen Hurts.

Unless it was strictly for sentimental purposes, bringing him in wouldn’t have made much sense.

Foles has spent time in Jacksonville and Chicago since capturing Philadelphia’s first Lombardi, throwing for over 2800 yards, 14 TDs and 10 INTs in 14 games.

He now cements himself as Matt Ryan’s backup, just two months after former starter Carson Wentz was shipped out of town.

It's not that puzzling, Strong is a UDFA and Minshew is a free agent at the end of the year, if they could trade him for even a conditional late round pick and bring in Foles to back up they'd lose nothing.

It would undermine the starter.  The guy who won a Super Bowl, who has a statue outside the stadium.  They would chant his name every time Hurts was stinking up the joint.

You guys want Minshew to start now, like I say they lose nothing.

It's just Howie realizing how important the Back Up QB is. Floes over Minschew is a no brainer.

Not every QB is a mental midget like #11 was. Hurts would be fine. He may lack NFL level passing ability, but he’s not mentally weak.

I'm disappointed the Eagles weren't able to sign him.  To me, Nick brings tremendous value to the club - both in the QB room, and the ability to get hot late season and make a run.  The consummate relief pitcher in the NFL today, it still boggles my mind that there hasn't been one club who has figured out how to use him right.  Nick is at his best coming in mid to late season fresh playing against defenses with players who've been hitting game day the entire season.  It's a huge advantage, and couple that with his experience and proven record, signing him would have been a no brainer.  If Reich is smart, he should have no qualms about bringing in Foles to take over for Ryan mid, late season if Ryan is starting to falter in any way.  The Colts have the ability to go on a nice run if Foles gets a hot hand.

Nick's a smart guy. He knows there's no recreating that 2017 season. Best to leave that legendary run unsullied by a down year. The dude has a statue in his honor for crying out loud. Love Nick but it's best he's elsewhere. Now, if he wants to come back as a QB coaching intern? Then, Yes, welcome home.

I think Howie was just doing the right thing by Nick. Foles is the greatest QB to play for the Eagles. SB is what matters, he got us that eluded trophy. #1 in my book.

If you read the article, there's not a lot of detail on the communications between the Eagles and Foles.  We don't know if the Eagles reached out and Foles just wasn't interested, or whether Indy made a better offer.  Who knows.
