I dont know anyone that thinks he is hugely underrated. I like Derek, he is a solid starter, and with his age we can hope he develops his pass rush toolbox. I feel he is pretty disappointing for a first round pick though.

If Barnett does not play another down in the NFL, he was still worth it.  He already earned his worth with the strip sack against Minnesota in the NFCCG and the fumble recovery at the end of SB 52.  Without DB, we may not have won the SB.

He is a good player. He's not underrated and he's not overrated by fans. I think fans see him for what he is. A good DE #2, not what we'd have hoped for but a good solid player. Give him a dominant player the other end and I think he'll put up good numbers.

Let's see what he can do this year with more talent around him on the DL.

Let's not forget that he also goes up against the LT every week so in theory he has the tougher assignment each week.

I think people have an unrealistic view of what 1st rounders should be, at DE especially. Maybe if he was a top 5 pick then he'd be a disappointment but a mild one.

He's solid and a good hustle player.  But he can't really push the tackle around and rarely gets around the edge on speed alone.  So he has to work hard to make an impact.  Nothing wrong with that but he won't get big bucks for that output and if another DE wrecking ball comes along that can get around the edge consistently, then Barnett becomes either a rotation player at the right price or is out of here.

I like him a lot but clowney would wreak more havoc. If we can get him for under $15 mm a year, get him.

Well, it's not surprising that philly fans are ridiculously impatient with a 1st round pick.

But, Barnett had more sacks and about the same amount of tackles in his first 3 years as clowney had.........Barnett has dealt with a lot of injuries, but is improving each year.  It's not a surprise that the eagles picked up his 5th year option.....he's going to benefit from a stronger interior defensive line and just might pile up  some sacks this year.

Barnett has the ability to be a havoc creating DE despite what the opinions are here......He's fast, strong and has been playing with injuries.  Have patience.

For $10-12M I would possibly consider Clowney. But let's not think he would wreak more havoc than Barnett. The numbers suggest otherwise.

He was very young coming out of college and was more of a brainy rusher than a pure talent one.  Those guys take a bit longer to develop and we haven't stopped hearing about how he has been working on his secondary moves this entire time.

He's got the pressures, I think he' very close to busting out.

DB was far better than Clowney last year.

Yeah he was definitely. I still think with Clowney the appeal is that potential. But at this point surely he's shown that he's not really going to live up to that potential.

No to Clowney....... just stop people. There's a reason two teams have been willing to move on from him.

The guy is already a head case. Him coming here would just make him a bigger, more expensive head case that will kill team chemistry.
