I'm not a member so never. I've taken safety courses at ranges because it's required to use the range

Why aren't you a member of NRA? Yet you're so defensive.

I would say there are a lot of non NRA gun owners, who sympathize with the NRA, but can't afford to pay the annual dues. LOL.

Don't care to be. Also I think it's a subscription but not sure. Just don't need it

It's more of a correction than being defensive but I guess you see it as defensive in your eyes. It's not required to know about them or use them when being a gun owner but people constantly bring up the NRA when a shooting happens. Has it ever been reported that any of these shooters were members of the NRA?

Anecdotal, but I'd say it's less than 10% of those I know. They don't have a good reputation.

I think their reputation was much better even in the 80's and I'm not sure if it's because they were less political or if I cared less about political 'stuff' in those days and it just seemed that way.  I do think they offer good instructor led courses, just haven't had the need or want to attend them.

I highly doubt it. Not really the point. I will concede responsible gun owners aren't the ones committing the vast majority of gun crimes.

Yet there's an organization that claims to be at the forefront of responsible gun ownership. They do the bare minimum, throw up their hands and say "oh well, we tried", then advocate for more gun proliferation. They should be embarrassed. It's no wonder most gun owners do not want to be part of them.

I don't dislike them. I simply don't need them or care to join. They do get blame because the public sees them as this gun club that has all of this power. You still haven't said what you wanted them to do extra since you say they don't enough

More.

I feel like we are going in a circular argument.

Promote/administer shooter safety courses. Educate gun owners. Join the discussion about firearm restrictions. Be a part of smarter gun control instead of letting the anti-gun crowd control the narrative. Unfortunately they'd rather promote more guns in more people's hands.

Sorry my brain is everywhere right now lol

They do promote safety courses (I just showed you). I honestly don't know if they join any discussions or are part of anything like that since I'm not a member

I know they do. They can do more.

And NRA shouldn't be a lobby.

I'd rather they didn't have more power. There are rules you need to follow at ranges to be able to shoot. There are laws you need to follow if you want to shoot on your own property

I want mindful gun owners. Too many idiots out there. NRA isn't helping. I feel they're making it worse.

Not sure how gun safety and mass shootings are related. If you're talking about reducing accidental gun deaths, then that's one thing, but mass shootings are a far more complex problem.

Mass shootings are an extremely small percentage of guns deaths. Eliminating all of them would barely put a dent in overall gun deaths.

If we really want to put a dent in gun deaths we should ban suicide.

Not if you spell it like that, better to be more subtle and go with Highman.

Mass shooting at MSU leaves 3 dead, 5 seriously injured.
