SkippyX
First off, he was a great man. He was an incredible player, one of the all-time greats. He was classy and he was a mentor to many. He was also a civil rights leader at a time (that is still not over) of some really disgusting and evil stuff (Rush Limbaugh is probably still using a racist Obama accent in hell right now) He should be honored and remembered and all of those good things. SkippyX
Here is the truth of those Celtics TEAMS: (Philadelphians have been beaten over the head with that team for 50+ years) Cousy 6 rings (1 year of overlap with Havlicek) HoF 12x All-NBA Havlicek 8 rings ( 6 with 2 more later) HoF 11x All-NBA Sam Jones 10 rings HoF 3x All-NBA KC Jones 8 rings HoF Frank Ramsey 7 rings Tom Heinsohn 8 rings HoF 4x All-NBA Bill Russell 11 rings HoF 11x All-NBA Don Nelson 5 rings (3 with 2 more later) Bill Sharman 4 rings HoF 11x All-NBA They were an All-Star team+ for about 13 years. Bill was the best overall of them and the best of them most years but what he did was easy button compared to guys like Jordan (11x All-NBA). Pippen was 7x All-NBA and no one else on the team was close. Rodman was 2x. Try to make the same comparisons with Jordan or Brady or even Wilt. None of LeBron's super teams were as super as those Celtics. Steph, Draymond, and Klay adding KD might be the only good comparison for overmatched talent level. Too bad KD got his body hurt then his feelings hurt.
SkippyX
I just learned this bit yesterday. Bill Russell should have been a great player for the St Louis Hawks who teamed with Bob Petit for a bunch of titles... They drafted him at #2 overall. The St Louis fanbase was a bunch of racists so they had to trade the black guy to Boston because they would not support the team with him on it. Imagine being so racist that going to 1950s Boston instead is much less racist. https://www.peachtreehoops.com/2020/5/17/21258883/bill-russell-atlanta-hawks-racism-st-louis-details-story-conspiracy Apparently Rochester did not pick Russell at #1 because the Celtics owner bribed them with the Ice Capades.
