QUICK TAKES: SIX EAGLES WHO IMPRESSED IN PRESEASON WIN VS. CLEVELAND

The Eagles took care of the business yesterday at FirstEnergy Stadium, defeating the Browns in preseason action 21-20.

Without Jalen Hurts and the starters, Philadelphia’s offense impressed while the second-team defense, not so much. Here are six standouts from the exhibition win in Cleveland.

QB Gardner Minshew

With Hurts resting, Minshew had a productive day for the Eagles, throwing for 142 yards on 14/17 passing. He played the entire first half and made quick decisions while leading two TD drives. It’s essential to have a capable backup in this league, especially when you have a dual-threat starter susceptible to taking hits.

Entering his second year as the primary reserve, Minshew showed why Philly values him in their QB room.

"In my mind, I’ve proven to myself that I can play in this league,” Minshew said. "That’s all that matters. I know if I continue to get better, then I have a chance to have a really good career in this league.”

WR Deon Cain

Cain served as Minshew’s favorite target on Sunday, finishing the day with five receptions for 66 yards. The 4th-year receiver used his 6’2” frame to make contested catches over defenders and had impressive back-to-back grabs on back shoulder throws from Minshew.

The performance from Cain was consistent with his body of work this summer. He has a real shot at cracking the final roster.

"I have been working a lot, just making sure I am doing the right thing on and off the field,” Cain said. "At the end of the day, you just have to keep doing your job and everything will just take care of itself.”

WR Devon Allen

From one receiver to another, Devon Allen finally showcased his blazing speed yesterday. The three-time US national track champion left former Eagles CB Lavert Hill in the dust en route to hauling in a 55-yard pass from Reid Sinnett — his first reception in an organized football game since 2016.

Allen’s final roster chances are incredibly slim, but seeing his world-class acceleration on display was fun.

"I’m starting to get more comfortable with the offense,” Allen said after the game. "With the help of DeVonta [Smith] and A.J. [Brown] and those guys — watching them do what they’re supposed to do correctly and trying to mimic that. I’m starting to feel more comfortable every day.”

S Andre Chachere

Chachere made the cut in my previous roster projections, and he solidified his spot in this game. His versatility allowed him to start at the nickel spot against Cleveland, and he made plays all over the field, most notably stopping QB Joshua Dobbs at the goal line. He also had a nice PBU on a pass intended for David Bell to force a FG attempt.

For a safety position without much depth beyond Marcus Epps, Chachere has stepped up throughout the summer.

CB Josh Jobe

After getting first-team work last week in practice, Josh Jobe continued to improve his stock on Sunday. The UDFA led Philadelphia with seven total tackles and broke up a pass in the endzone with 4 seconds remaining in the first half, forcing the Browns to settle for a field goal.

If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s to never bet against former Alabama players. Jobe is putting himself in a good position to earn a roster spot in a crowded cornerback room.

"It is similar to my time at Alabama,” Jobe said of the CB competition. "I had to compete with other guys when I came in. It has not been different. I just have to do what I have to do.”

C Cam Jurgens

It hasn’t taken long for the rookie to make an impact. Following his strong showing against the Jets, Cam Jurgens put safety D’Anthony Bell on the ground on the first play from scrimmage with Boston Scott trailing behind.

Jurgens played a vital role on the Eagles’ first two scoring drives, both resulting in rushing touchdowns. The Nebraska product has looked every bit of a dominant center and will only get better under the tutelage of Jason Kelce.

"He’s super athletic,” Gardiner Minshew said of Jurgens. "He’s also very smart. For a rookie to come here and make all the calls, do all the things he’s doing, it’s super impressive. I’m very excited for his future.”

Cain is probably going to lose out on a spot on the final 53 to Reagor due to salary cap implications and/or draft status.  Shame because Cain offers more and is just a much better player overall than Reagor.

Howie needs to bite the bullet and trade Reagor. I’d take a 5 but best offer may only be a 6. He can’t play and needs to go
