I would not be surprised to see Chauncy-Gardner walk after this year.  Thing that makes this a good trade even if he walks is that the comp pick the Eagles get is likely worth more than what they gave up, plus they get to use his services for a year.

We’ve given up more for an even shorter term rental.  Golden Tate … wasn’t that a 3rd for basically half a season?

I hope another lesson he has learned is that you simply should not use high picks on a "project" (a player you plan to switch positions ... e.g played S exclusively throughout college and you intend to play him at LB, or a player that only has a couple years under his belt playing at any level, etc.).  Using a 3rd rd pick on Taylor knowing it was going to take several years to know what you have is ridiculous.  By the time he is potentially NFL ready, he is at the end of his rookie contract and you need to decide on whether or not to invest a large chunk of change in him.  You basically get zero return on the benefit of the cheap rookie contract.  Save those types of picks for players selected later on day 3 (round 5 at the very earliest).

Stopped after 5 pages. Their fans seemed PISSED, which screams at me that we should be excited.  You had fans on there saying they were hoping to get a #1 or #2 back from us for a solid, but not PB talent.

For aggravated assault with a gun stemming from road rage.  And he already has a DUI trial pending.

Lets check in on how saints fans are reacting....

Also

I really really like this. For a minimal trade value they've picked up a really really good player. I guess the biggest concern is if he can be a full time Safety? As he's played most of his career at nickel.

People are happy now. I wonder how they'll feel later. CJGJ has the same amount (20) of penalties (accepted) over the last 3 years as Barnett. Every one of them resulted in a 1st down. He's aggressive and a trash-talker which usually makes you a marked man in the eyes of the officials. Personally, I don't have a problem with the style, but seeing people rip Barnett for the last several years for his flags, you know it's going to happen occasionally here with CJGJ too.

And look... Ridiculous flags are Ridiculous flags but Barnett is a bone head. His flags are usually for late hits or things where you just scratch your head. CJGJ is a trash talker so he'll get flagged for more unsportsmanlike behaviour. I know the end result is the same but it feels a little different.

It’s not the same result either.
Unlike Barnett GJ is getting some penalties on the other team back with his  behaviour.

And unlike Barnett CJGJ is going to be making plays.

The Saints weren't using him as a full-time Safety, he was frustrated being at Nickel and wants a new contract.  So maybe not quite robbery, but a good trade for the Eagles.

Spreading out the picks over different years is always good too.

I still think it's robbery because the Saints GM is in the stone ages thinking specific one-dimensional positions and contracts. 1 position not worth + 1 CAP is too high = 2 dumb elementary thinking. Move him to Safety before he excels at the position in the NFL,, trade their criminal safety, keep the versatility and youth.

It's like robbing someone with Down syndrome.

A BG play mostly though...

Obviously BG made the strip sack. Barnett was pushed down on that play and that's a thing where some players just stay down. Barnett's hustle kept #60 from recovering the fumble and potentially even getting a positive gain on a play that is technically a sack. More importantly, he was 100% alert and recovered the loose ball helping create one of the biggest plays in franchise history.

No doubt it would be nice if Barnett made more plays, but I believe this is a situation where a player didn't really live up to the initial hype, but has been a solid contributor and a little under-valued by fans. The penalties are just a thing for people to harp on, but those are kind of turned into a "mythological monster." Counting the playoff game last year, he had 3 roughing the passer (obviously the last one was a terrible call), 1 Unnecessary roughness, 3 offside, and 1 neutral zone infraction. In the myth, he's getting a personal foul penalty every game or something. He's just a player that doesn't let up until the whistle blows. His effort is why the team brought him back.
