As the Eagles continued making roster moves on Wednesday, multiple reports indicated the team had signed former Jets RB La’Mical Perine as the 16th and final member of their practice squad.

Despite the reports, Perine was notably absent from the team’s initial practice squad announcement Wednesday afternoon.

Today, the Eagles made it official.

Perine was cut by the Jets earlier this week as New York trimmed down their roster to the final 53.

The Eagles made some transactions of their own in the backfield throughout the week, waiving both Kennedy Brooks and Jason Huntley. Although both backs cleared waivers, Brooks was the only one who came back to join the practice squad. Huntley remains a free agent.

Perine, 24, was selected in the fourth-round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Jets. He’s appeared in 14 games during his two-year career, compiling 263 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the process.

During his collegiate career, Perine was a standout for Florida’s offense. His best statistical season came in 2018 as a junior, where he ran for 826 yards on 134 attempts (6.7 YPC) while finding the end zone seven times.

The RB emerged as a receiving threat during his senior season, hauling in 40 receptions for 262 yards and five touchdowns. He totaled 32 receptions and three receiving touchdowns in his first three collegiate seasons combined.

Perine will join Brooks as the only two backs on the Eagles practice squad entering the season. It’ll be interesting to see which back the coaching staff prefers if Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, or Kenneth Gainwell sustains an injury.

I seem to recall I liked Perine coming out of college. He was one of those mid to late round guys that I wanted the Eagles to take.
