May 29, 20205 yr Author https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Daniel_Shaver Quote Police Sergeant Charles Langley then ordered Shaver, who was lying prone, to cross his legs. Moments later, he ordered Shaver to push himself "up to a kneeling position." While complying with the order to kneel, Shaver uncrossed his legs and Langley shouted that Shaver needed to keep his legs crossed. Startled, Shaver then put his hands behind his back and was again warned by Langley to keep his hands in the air. Langley yelled at Shaver that if he deviated from police instructions again, they would shoot him. Sergeant Langley told Shaver not to put his hands down for any reason. Shaver said, "Please don't shoot me". Upon being instructed to crawl, Shaver put his hands down and crawled on all fours. While crawling towards the officers, Shaver paused and moved his right hand towards his waistband. Officer Philip Brailsford, who later testified he believed that Shaver was reaching for a weapon, then opened fire with his AR-15 rifle, striking Shaver five times and killing him almost instantly. Shaver was unarmed, and may have been attempting to prevent his shorts from slipping down.
May 29, 20205 yr Author A baby died after an officer crashed his Corvette at 94 mph, investigators say. He won’t face charges. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/11/15/baby-died-after-cop-drove-mph-crashed-his-corvette-officer-wont-face-charges/ Quote Investigators say an off-duty police officer was driving his orange Corvette 94 miles an hour, nearly twice the speed limit, when he collided with a family’s SUV two years ago. The crash killed a 1-year-old girl, who went flying out of the vehicle, according to police. But Christopher Manuel of the Baton Rouge Police Department will face no criminal charges — not even for speeding, prosecutors said this week. The news has drawn further scrutiny to the 2017 tragedy that stirred public outrage last year after authorities arrested the dead child’s mother, 21-year-old Brittany Stephens, on suspicion of negligent homicide, saying the baby probably would not have been ejected and killed if Stephens had properly secured the car seat. You read that right, no charges for cop who was speeding, but mother with dead baby was arrested. Oh yeah, she's black too.

May 29, 20205 yr Multiple things can be true at the same time: Police have to deal with a lot of dangerous and stupid people. Police face danger and are on alert to protect themselves. Police are scrutinized and have to follow procedures, whereas criminals don't follow any rules or morals and do anything to get away with things. There are some criminals who resist arrest, don't follow police instruction, or attack police or reach for a gun. There are also some criminals who follow instructions and do nothing and get abused or killed anyway. There are good police who do the right thing and don't get enough attention. There are corrupt police who harass people and abuse their power. There are whites who get killed by police but don't get the media attention. There are blacks who are murdered by corrupt police who should be jailed. There are likely more interactions we don't know about because of reporting, or no one around with a camera. We have a history of oppression of blacks in this country that hangs over every white-black interaction like a storm cloud, it's just how it is.
May 29, 20205 yr I said it in the other thread but I think it is time for some type of police malpractice insurance that they must have and police unions should pay for it. I bet that will get rid of the crap cops pretty pretty quickly
May 29, 20205 yr Bad cops are like bad priests. Criminals enter into a profession where they feel that they can abuse their power. Racist thugs become cops to abuse the badge and kill people. Pedophiles become men of the cloth to rape little boys. both are noble professions that attract some of the most deranged ukers that America has to offer.

The video, posted to Twitter, was taken near police headquarters along Travis Street in the afternoon. Alison Amador, who recorded the video, told Chron.com the demonstrators were surrounding another demonstrator who had been injured during a scuffle with police when the mounted officer came through.

The profession just doesn't attract the best and brightest always. I think it's important to remember that cops, by the nature of their jobs, have to deal with the worst society has to offer on a daily basis. Interactions like this one are incredibly common: There's no harm in striving for justice, and, yes, the Minneapolis officer and many posted here should face repercussions, but we should still keep perspective. Police killings are still statistically rare justified or not. It just doesn't happen as often as our media would like us to believe. The over-sensationalizing of this event will undoubtedly lead to more death and violence if our media doesn't start reporting it honestly. If this is truly about limiting deaths, propagating the lie that blacks are unsafe to walk the streets because of trigger-happy cops will only lead to increased tensions and more mistakes and tragedies. Let's be responsible and keep perspective. On 5/29/2020 at 1:05 PM, NOTW said: Multiple things can be true at the same time: Police have to deal with a lot of dangerous and stupid people. We have a history of oppression of blacks in this country that hangs over every white-black interaction like a storm cloud, it's just how it is. You both make truthful and good points here. I believe most cops are good and try to do their difficult jobs as best they can. It's unfortunate that the small minority of bad ones besmirch the good ones. However, I also think that too many of the good ones protect too many of the bad ones instead of calling them out and trying to get them removed from their station. It's nice they have this bond and camaraderie, but if there's a rotten apple in the bunch then it needs to be removed, unless you want to be associated with it. I also think that cops on the local level need better training and more psyche evaluations. I'm sure there's a certain percentage of cops out there that never grew out of their HS tough guy/bully mentality and are doing this job because of the power it gives then and they abuse it. I have experienced mostly good cops over my years, though I have also experience 2-3 bad ones. Two instances of bad ones I recall is once I was pulled over for not using my turn signal at a 'T' intersection. There was a clear left and right lane and I was in the right lane so obviously I was turning right since I can't go straight (I normally use my turn signals, but didn't see the point here). To go straight would put me in the small parking lot of a fire station where there were 2 cops cars sitting positioned so they could be window to window to chat. It was about 2am and I was the DD for a concert that myself and friends attended. When the cop came up to my car I asked why I was being pulled over he yelled at me "Because you didn't use your turn signal, you F'ing Ahole! You want to make something of it?!" That's a BAD cop. Their job is to defuse a situation and NOT to incite/ignite one. Another time I was with friends at the midnight release of the 7th and final Harry Potter book at a Barnes & Noble. I was standing in a crowd talking to someone when a group of cops told the crowd they had to push back and leave a circle. So there I was standing in the MIDDLE of the circle and since I had starting walking forward instead of turning around to walk back this one cop took an attitude with me and asked something like where did I think I was going. I pointed out to him it didn't matter which direction I went because they were all equidistant. C'mon, man! This is a bunch of people who like to read books, most of which were families with kids, and you're looking to start something? Dbag. I know a good amount of cops and the ones I know are all good people. Good people with families, kids, who are good fathers and good friends. One of which is being railroaded right now by the state of NJ. Turns out one of his old email accounts that he hadn't use in years, but can't fully delete, was hacked by someone who used it to buy sexual pics of children. This guy is in a class action lawsuit vs Yahoo because you can't delete your email or turnoff your email account with them (I should get in on that lawsuit as well because I tried to have my accounts closed down/deleted and you can't do it), but because he's a cop some DA sees this as a political move that will score him points with the public. If he wasn't a cop he wouldn't have been charged. I know this guy and his family through people I'm close to and he's a good guy. He'll most likely end up suing the state and getting a nice settlement because they have nothing, but in the meantime he's getting screwed, out of a job without pay. So when I read stories about cops who abuse their power and keep their jobs I get pissed. Like I said, most of the ones I know are good people and I can't imagine them doing something like kneeling a prone suspect's neck while cuffed. But there are ones out there with issues who shouldn't be on the streets. They need to do more training and more psyche evals (and do them at least every 5 years) to keep the bad ones out. The good ones have enough of a hard time dealing with ish most of us will never see in our lifetimes, so something needs to be done so their jobs won't be harder.

I support righteous individuals, doesn't matter to me if they're cops or civilians. American police as a whole, however, compromise a debased institution that repeatedly covers up serial wrongdoing to people of all races. The "Blue Lives Matter" movement is little more than a bunch of statist losers seeking to proudly perpetuate the authoritarianism and lack of police accountability that has led us to this place: "Don't question authority. Shoot first and ask questions later (or better yet, don't ask any questions at all)." We need to start cleaning house at some of these precincts and rebuild the entire system from the ground level. Cops need to know they work for the people. They are public servants who should serve at the pleasure of the people.
