While the Eagles have been reluctant to give a timetable on his return, sources close to the receiver said he was as far out as nine months from a full recovery from surgery, which theoretically could have him back in uniform by Week 1. The Eagles would love to trade Jeffery. They tried as far back as last October before anonymous quotes criticizing Carson Wentz, the offense and the front office were attributed to him. But he is virtually untradeable considering his contract, age, relative decline, and mostly, his injury. He wasn’t happy last season when he found out about the possible trade, and whether that had anything to do with his alleged comments to ESPN, I still can’t imagine him playing in midnight green again. But a lot could depend on how Jackson returns from November core muscle surgery, how Arcega-Whiteside develops in Year 2, and how the new pieces fit. The Eagles simply aren’t in a position to be dumping (former) Pro Bowl receivers, however distant they are from their best seasons, and from the starting quarterback. June 1, 20204 yr I think at this point we have to accept that Jeffrey is going to be back in some form. He may miss several weeks whilst on PUP. He may be on the 53 man roster but out for the first few weeks but it seems inevitable that he will be back. Nobody is going to trade for him with that contract and with his injury and they aren't going to cut him.

It's interesting to note that according to Spotrac we can save about $13m in cap space if we release him after 6/1 (as in, now). Obviously we can't trade him because he's hurt. Releasing him with an injury settlement is possible, though.

If we cut him pre June - then we would have basically taken a 26 million hit this year. The Eagles though had the option to cut him with a post June designation, which would have still meant they took the full cap hit this year of around 16 million, but would spread the other 10 million over future years. If the Eagles trade Alshon from June 1, they would save cap and I think that's what journalists/fans who are saying that Alshon will not play another snap for the Eagles are hanging on to. But if the Eagles are refusing to play Alshon, then he can't show that he is healthy and/or productive and nobody is taking on that contract without the Eagles giving up a reasonably high draft pick. So that's why I firmly believe that the Eagles are intending to play Alshon this year when he is ready to go, which the Eagles have made clear on a number of occasions.
