I will be in on this player being acquired.  We have draft picks to dangle. Our Defensive end needs players, definite upgrade from Derek Barnett.  On top of that, he’s still young at 24 yrs of age.

I wouldn't be against it but I guess it really depends what we'd have to give up. Feels like a viable option though given the Panthers are going to be in rebuild mode and looking to the future.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind people saying because the Panthers are in rebuild mode that they'll be willing to trade a 24 year old stud DE, he'll be one of the foundation pieces that they keep unless they get an absolutely monster offer,  and I don't want the Eagles throwing multiple early round picks away on trades.

I mean yeah that's one way to look at it. But then like the Dolphins traded Tunsil and that's worked out alright for them. I guess if they can get the right price then he's available. Now whether that price is too high is another matter.

I've always hated the thought of dealing 1st rounders for vet players.  They'd have to be special and fill a need in a position we have trouble identifying talent (WR up until Smith, CB, etc.) in order for me to appreciate that kind of deal (Peters was obviously a home run and more recently Brown is certainly trending in that direction as well).  We do have a need at edge rusher but I am more inclined to use the pick on a player in April's draft, having him under control for 4-5 years on a cheap rookie contract.  You wouldn't agree to a deal with Burns unless you are agreeing to an extension in the process - might be difficult considering our current cap situation, the (likely) need to give Hurts a market contract soon, and several key players on expiring contracts to either extend or replace.

Our cap situation isn't dire, but that's because we have a lot of players that will be free agents after the season. Many of them key guys this year that are playing well and still young. White, Edwards, CJGJ, Sanders, Epps. Then there are vets like Cox, Hargrave, Bradberry, Kelce. Obviously not everybody will be returning next year, but it may not be wise to lose young guys that fit what we do, that have earned their pay here.

I also would be surprised if the Panthers trade Burns. I don't think they'll trade any of their key defensive players, but I can see them moving some of their veterans on offense like Christian McCaffrey or DJ Moore via trade to a contender before the trade deadline for a team trying to make that push over the top.

I'm not willing to trade the Saints pick for him

No? But he's a proven NFL DE and he's still young.
