INJURY NEWS: EAGLES LT ANDRE DILLARD COULD MAKE HIS FIRST APPEARANCE OF THE SEASON IN WEEK 6

When speaking with the Eagles press Friday morning, head coach Nick Sirianni hinted at a possible return for backup LT Andre Dillard.

Last week, Dillard’s 21-day practice window was activated after the left tackle was placed on injured reserve prior to the start of the season. Dillard fractured his forearm just days before the 2022 regular season began.

After about two weeks of practice, Dillard may get his first action of the season in Week 6 when Dallas comes to down for a primetime NFC East showdown.

Eagles HC Nick Sirianni on Dillard’s availability this week:

"He’s close and I think he has a good chance to play this week,” Sirianni said. "We have some time to think about it and keep assessing it, but he’s had a good week of practice so far and we’re hopeful.”

Getting Dillard back in the fold would be huge for the Eagles. Starting LT Jordan Mailata missed last week and most of the game a week prior with a shoulder injury. Jack Driscoll filled in for the Aussie in Week 5. It was Driscoll’s first career start at the position; the majority of his playing time has come at right guard and right tackle.

Mailata was a limited participant during Thursday’s practice session and Sirianni stated that the left tackle is trending towards starting this upcoming Sunday. Nevertheless, having Dillard as a depth piece to fill in at LT if need be is far more ideal than throwing Driscoll there.

If Dillard does get the nod to the active roster for Sunday, the Eagles will need to open up a roster spot for him. They won’t have to make that decision until game day, though.

Two names that could be on the chopping block to make room for Dillard are CB Josh Jobe and QB Ian Book.

Jobe has been struggling with a shoulder injury and was a limited participant in practice Thursday. If they place the rookie on IR and use their final practice squad elevation on DB Andre Chachere, Dillard will have an open spot on the 53.

The team could also outright cut Book, the third quarterback on the depth chart. I can’t imagine the Eagles will lose much sleep over potentially losing Book. Jalen Hurts has stayed completely healthy this season and Gardner Minshew is an above average backup.

If we can have Mailata back with Dillard as an option then that would be really good news for us. Dallas are going to bring real pressure this week so we need to be ready for that.
