In simplest terms, yes.

Pretty much.

Proof of work is more secure but requires more computing power. Proof of stake ias basically a game theory exercise. Anyone with enough ETH to defraud the network would basically lose money by doing so... in theory at least.

cryptocurrency's main attraction is that it's a limited currency; it seems quite a bit to me like gold. If I had to guess, it's in the early volatile stages where the market is trying to figure out its price, but when it does it will behave financially similar to how gold does vs traditional fiat currencies ... something of a safe haven when other markets are volatile and dooming, while funds flow out when traditional investment vehicles look to be better bets.

I think there's a rough road yet to travel to get there. And I get the attraction especially if you're a skeptic of the Fed and other central authorities ... cryptocurrency democratizes the marketplace outside of central authorities like nothing in recent history.

I say that as someone who is very much a layman on financial markets. I have only just waded in, and my exposure is minimal .. it's mainly an academic exercise for me to educate myself. it's all entirely speculative at this point.

I'm curious where BTC, which seems a little less volatile, fits in vs other cryptos.

Limited quantity AND non governmental. The second part is a blessing and a curse. The relative anonymity and independence from government control it can provide is a perk but also invites a lot of government scrutiny. You heard Vikas got out because of regulatory risk. The overnight dump was from Chinese regulatory news. What makes it attractive also creates powerful enemies.

As far as BTC vs other crypto currencies, it basically steers the market. Think of BTC like the US stock market and all the other cryptos as smaller countries. If the US market tanks then most likely all the other markets will tank as well. Same with BTC and other crypto currencies. There is a high correlation.

I don't think the China news was that big of a deal to me. 44.5k to 45k was really heavy resistance and it couldn't break it for nearly two days. The bs China news was just the tipping point.

Btc closed above 42.7k for the day which has been resistance for a lot of summer.

You had an 8% drop in 4 hours during China's waking hours. In the big picture not a lot has changed, but it was absolutely the trigger for that dump.

"The USD is valuable because hydrocarbons that power our lifestyle are priced in these units. It allows the issuing organisation the privilege to print infinite amounts of money in exchange for real goods and services. Open metaverses that eventually contain billions of users, and consume immense data, must pay Bitcoin to the machines that underpin the network. This is another and possibly the most important pillar of demand that will underpin the value of Bitcoin. There is no actionable trade idea based on this theory other than simply HODL’ing."

Arthur Hayes suggesting the future is DAOs and their native tokens run the online world, but everything is ultimately denominated in Bitcoin. Makes sense

Social engineering via phishing most likely. Still technically under the umbrella of hacking, just not what is typically depicted in movies and tv shows. This is why keeping money on an exchange comes with risk. Not much different than a bank or brokerage account though.

So I finally got around to throwing some play money at HEX, staked for 365 days. No idea what the hell I'm doing.

Basically you’ve locked up your HEX for the next year. I assume it provides some kind of yield in return for staking.

This is how millionaires are made.

Or thousandaires.

But maybe you lose it all.

Life is short. I suggest posting a lot of nonsensical memes and trying not to take things too seriously.

Missed reposting this when it went over a couple of days ago... is BTC going to stay above the 50K threshold for good now?

It may have a wick or two below 50k but we will never see 40k again.

After this parabolic run 60k should be the new support. Resistance turns into support

I buy crypto on Robin Hood Coinbase and Etoro... I hold in Coinbase and Robin Hood and decided to try trading with my Etoro account basically just to gamble with it... Sold my bitcoin and etherium and will buy again after a pullback

You sold it now? It won't pull back until 70k or so I imagine.

Last time you made a prediction, we had a really rough week.

I only threw in like 220 bucks into my Etoro account just to basically gamble with... I bought btc mid 40ks and eth low 3ks... It will more than likely pull back again before going higher and I'll just buy again...

Cool, I shorted it and made a killing.
