The idea that the Republicans will gut SS is one of the more disturbing claims in Democrat attack ads.

I went to Politifact (a fact-checking site that claims to be "independent" but like Snopes is undeniably Leftist)
and this is what they say:

Wow. The GOP would shift money from the rich to the poor.

But in order to keep it solvent for all, benefits will decrease.
For the lowest earners it'd go down 12% by the year 2060.
For the richest fifth, it'd go down by 44%.
