LOS ANGELES — Carson Wentz's day was cut short. The Eagles hope there's not more bad news coming.

The Eagles' quarterback left Sunday's win over the Rams at the LA Coliseum late in the third quarter with a knee injury. The Eagles announced he would not return.

The Eagles fear that Wentz has a torn ACL, a team source confirmed. Wentz will have an MRI on Monday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the possibility of a torn ACL.

A few plays before Wentz hit Alshon Jeffery for a two-yard touchdown pass on 4th-and-goal, he took a pretty hard shot as he dove into the end zone on a touchdown that was nullified by a penalty.

After the drive, Wentz went to the sideline to be evaluated in the blue medical tent. He was then walked into the locker room and did not return.

Nick Foles began to warm up on the sideline and then replaced Wentz.

That touchdown pass to Jeffery was Wentz's fourth of the game and 33rd of the season. That broke the Eagles' franchise record for touchdown passes in a single season. It was set by Sonny Jurgenson in the 1961 season.

Wentz has been having a tremendous season and his name is at the forefront of the NFL's MVP race.

God I can still remember that awful night. I can still remember sitting up until 4am watching the game live. I remember just thinking oh my god our season just ended.

Funny how things turned out hey.

I was pretty down about the injury too. Carson was having such a brilliant season, the best that I'd ever seen from an Eagles QB, going all the way back to Jaws in the 70's. But I was very confident in Nick and believed that he could step in and we'd be fine.

I can't say that I 'expected' him to lead us to the Rocky Steps, Lombardi in hand. But I believed that he could... that's not to say that I wasn't 'heart sick' over Carson's injury, though. In some ways, it felt a little like Randall in 1991's opener.  In 1991, pre-Bryce Paup, I just 'knew' that it was 'our year'. That feeling only lasted 1 quarter into the season opener, though. -_-

I have to put my hands up and say I thought the season was over. I mean we wrapped up the division that night so I knew we had a play off game to play. And then of course the following week we wrapped up a top 2 seeding and the week after the #1 seed. But after Foles performance against the Raiders I just didn't see how we could win a play off game. How wrong was I!

How do you think I feel. I was there for the raiders game. It felt soooo dam cold cause it was so boring and uneventful till Graham forced a fumble at the end and ran in for a TD. Cowboys game at home was the same. Sadly our 3rd string players played better then the starters in the 1st Q. I thought for sure it was a one home playoff game and done situation. Fole to me had 4 great games as a Eagle 7 TDs vs Raiders(it was the raiders), Conf Champ game vs Vikes, SB vs Pats and 2018 final home game of the season vs Texans. Rest were good to avg but those 4 are his great games. Lucky for us 2 of them came back to back in the playoffs when it mattered.

I remember watching that Raiders game on Christmas day. I was staying with my folks and stayed up to watch it at 1am and my god it was awful! Didn't Darby get a rare INT in that game? I seem to recall he did.

Yes he did.

Guess that was a pretty unique moment. Not many Eagles fans got to see those! Wrapped up the #1 seed too... :-)

I don't know if you remember this or not, or if you even saw the exchanges but it wasn't too long after this ACL injury that RTK was being his usual Debbie Downer about Nick and he and I got into it where I got him to admit that he didn't want Nick to win the Super Bowl.

It was probably a day or two after that game. He wound up getting suspended until the playoffs ended, at that time.

Yeah, his INT was nearly a huge return. I don't remember if he scored but I know he ran it back a really good distance where we'd have at least been in FG range. But he was ruled down at the spot of the INT.

Yeah i remember that. RTK was a d bag but I did kind of agree on some of the Foles stuff. I mean don't get me wrong I wanted Foles to succeed but I really didn't rate Foles. And to be honest I still don't put him as high overall as others do.

Regardless of how his career goes from hear on out, and even if he comes back to the Eagles and turns into another Mike McMahon (if you remember him), Nick will forever hold my #1 Eagles QB spot... well, I can't say forever. If Carson replicates LII or wins us a couple more, I'd have to bump him to the #1 spot. But for now, Nick is the greatest QB in Eagles history... to me.

Of course, that's based on the 2017 post-season, but even when he stepped onto the field in Los Angeles as Carson was walking to the locker room, I had full confidence in Nick. When Randall went down in 1991's season opener, I immediately threw in the towel. Jim McMahon was a good QB but he was past his prime. I thought we could still do 'ok' with him, but Jeff Kemp, Pat Ryan and Brad Goebel were just a nightmare to even ponder.

Of course, we still went 10-6 that season, but missed the playoffs. Put Randall in there for the full season, or a backup of the quality of Nick Foles, and we may have been parading down Broad Street in January of 1992, instead of February of 2017... and the Redskins would only have two Lombardi's (both tainted by strike shortened seasons).
