Posted November 15, 20222 yr Last night was just awful for the defense not getting off the field on 3rd down. Put turnovers aside, this is a huge part of any game. Get off the field on 3rd down and get the ball back to your offense. We didn't lose yesterday because of not getting off the field on 3rd down but it was one of the many reasons. Let's look back at the opponents the Eagles played the first 9 games and how many 3rd downs they converted against us. Granted the last 3 games prior to last night wasn't so bad as opponents were only 7-31. This is gonna be a big stat looking at going forward. We were killed in TOP yesterday for this many reason. Especially with us having trouble stopping the run and amount of great backs we are facing coming up. Washington only averaged 3.1 yards against us on the ground. Lions: 1-4 Vikings: 4-12 Commanders: 6-17 Jaguars: 2-7 Cardinals: 8-14 Cowboys: 4-10 Steelers: 1-12 Texans: 2-9 Commanders: 12-21. On the year opponents have converted 48-116 3rd down attempts against us, good enough for 41.4% which is tied for 19th in the league with Carolina. The Titans lead the league with 27.9%.
November 15, 20222 yr Good post, good topic. Teams will adjust to what the Iggles are doing. Now, the Iggles have to adjust back. How though? Put an extra man or two in the box? Run blitz? Have the D Lineman stunt or slant more? Run the ball with success and you can control the clock, thus keeping the Iggles Offense off of the field. Exactly what Washington did last night.
November 15, 20222 yr Gannon doesn't blitz to bring pressure, and the front 4 aren't dominant like in prior years. BG is well past his prime although still a solid player. Sweat is a decent DE but he's better suited as a complement to a stronger pass rushing DE that would draw a double team. Barnett being injured makes them thin at DE as well. Davis is injured but only plays run snaps basically, Cox is too old and underperforming; he's the new Jason Peters they won't let go despite performance. Hargrave is playing really well but how much longer does he have? A lot of fans wanted them to draft one of the top DE prospects this past draft. They signed Reddick as a pass rush specialist and so far he's on pace for about what he did the last 2 years in Carolina so that's good. But the front 4 doesn't have enough depth and there's no star player anymore. DE and DT should be a high priority this offseason.

Even if it's in the draft.
November 16, 20222 yr How about rotate more bodies in there? Dean? Williams? Cox isn't an every down player anymore.
