Jared Verse (EDGE, Florida State) -- DRAFTED BY L.A. RAMS #19

I have waited too long to make a thread for Jared Verse. Pretty local guy for me. From Berwick, and went to Central Columbia high school in Bloomsburg (as some Berwick kids do).

Began his college career at Albany and was highly sought after in the transfer portal. Ended up at Florida State this year and seems to be flying up draft boards.

Hes a little bit of a smaller, stout DE in the mold of Brandon Graham. About 6'4'' 250. Has a lot of the tools to be a well rounded DE. Size helps him play with good leverage converting speed to power, as well as edge setting. Good bend around the edge when rushing the passer. Looks like a guy who, like Graham will end up playing the pass and run equally well. Should thrive in the 5 tech spot on our D.

Not a lot of new vids on youtube for him yet. There will be some decent highlight vids soon enough, Im sure.

So far has been pretty productive at the FBS level, 5.5 sacks through 8 games (2 vs LSU) this year.  Usually, you get a little worried about the tweeners - but Verse can play standing up and likely hold up as a base DE in passing situations, so the BG comparison is apt in terms of role.

I am a FSU fan and bias. If we can get him with our 2nd 1st rd pick on maybe a trade up I am down to get him. He is good.

PFF has updated their mock machine - but doesn't like it when when I pick Verse... D+, c'mon.

Have to gin up the Tyree Wilson vs Verse conversation? And the corners? And even the Gibbs and Charbonnet talk, etc…

Agreed, the RB was a 2nd round thing - as both Gibbs/Charbonnet have their fans.

Verse fits the physical profile of undersized, "high motor" defensive ends that the Eagles typically like to take in the 1st round (actually a bit lighter than BG and Derek Barnett coming out of college at 250 lbs).

This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and things will probably change closer to the draft, but the 10th overall pick for Verse might be a bit of a reach from a value standpoint.

However, Tyree Wilson and Myles Murphy will probably be off the board, so Verse will likely be the top EDGE prospect on the board. If either of the former prospects fall to 10 or if the Eagles could pull off a small trade down for Verse and accumulate more picks, that would be ideal.

He's about the same size as Bobby Quinn or Vonn Miller, and assuming the DE role now is closer to a 3-4 OLB or pass rush specialist in a 4-3, I don't think 6'4" 250lb is much of an issue.  If you can be big and quick (Murphy) all the better, but Verse isn't a slouch against the run if that is a concern.  I probably would want the top CB at 10 if the top DL are gone, but we have to get through FA, etc.

Agreed.  TJ Watt is 6'4" 252

Reddick is 6'1" 240

I feel like Foskey is being forgotten in the discussions of 10th-15th pick range DEs. I feel he should very much be in the conversation. I think hes a more likely option at pick 10, and Verse is more of a trade down candidate, or Eagles later 1st candidate.

But I absolutely love him. He gives be such Graham vibes. Perfect player to draft and learn from BG for a year or however long BG is going to stick around for.

Yeah, it’s a proven production vs ascendant talent judgement… Foskey is really really good. Somebody made a Sweat comparison - yeah sign me up. I assume he’ll be at the senior bowl, and that’s when Foskey will get some momentum (as he missed the bowl game, so has been out the picture since November, Verse on the other hand just had a memorable performance against Oklahoma).

Maybe even 3rd rd. Dline, Cb, Oline, rb in that order

I agree with the mix, doubt you’ll get Gibbs/Charbonnet using that order (w/o tradedowns, etc.).

So last year James Cook goes at the end of the 2nd, and Brian Robinson goes late 3rd. I figure that Gibbs/Charbonnet are better prospects respectively.

I have a feeling Howie is going to bring Sanders back

A lot of FA backs available, probably won’t be over the top $ wise - not what I prefer but checks off a need ahead the draft.

I wouldn't mind. I can see something along the lines of 8 or 9 mil a season maybe? I'd like to finally draft a franchise cb

Oof - maybe he wasn’t a top-20 pick -or- will Verse be top-5 pick next year… surprising move staying in school with all the buzz. Meanwhile there’s Van Ness who I can’t even find highlights of declaring despite insisting he was staying in school a couple weeks ago.

Yeah interesting decision for sure, but I guess he thinks he has a good shot at being the top DE in the 2024 draft and being a top 5 pick? Right now his draft projection is a bit wide among the analysts depending on which site you follow, I've seen him mocked as high as 11 to us and as low as the 20s in the first round. Some sites consider him as a 2nd round prospect in their rankings so it's not a consensus slam dunk 1st round projection for him.

Remember Jermaine Johnson (former FSU DE and apparently a big reason why Verse picked FSU over other programs per an article I came across) from last year, his draft projection was as high as top 10 close to the draft, after being a late 1st/early 2nd ranked prospect for much of the pre-draft process, he ultimately was taken 26th overall by the Jets.

Fire it back up for 2024

Idk how realistic this is but he'd be ridiculous on our dline. Sweat - Davis - Carter - Verse
