Yes we know as Eagles fans that season should be 2017, but I'm just speaking more as a general football fan.

I'm an old man and 1990 was the year that really made me fall in love with football. I was already an Eagles fan by then, but what happened during that season was truly one for the ages.

Let's start with the Eagles. This was the year when Randall became the "ultimate weapon" and was league MVP.

Yes sadly the Birds lost in the playoffs AGAIN and Buddy was fired after that. So that was a big turning point in Eagles history no matter how you look at it.

Now let's talk about the 49ers, the defending champs who are once again rampaging through the league after blowing up the Broncos 52-10 in the Superbowl.

The only real challenge they face were the Giants, whose role in the 1990 season would be one of the most pivotal for them and multiple other teams.

They faced each other in one of the greatest and most watched MNF games of all time, when they were both 10-1. The 49ers won that first matchup, but just barely 7-3.

The 49ers were also at a pivotal point in their history. They had a chance to become the first team to ever three-peat as champions. Montana was still playing like a god but Steve Young was breathing down his neck. A lot of their superstars will become potential free agents next season.

In the AFC, you had the Bills that seemed to be the new super team of the future, with their high powered offense  and featuring Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, and Bruce Smith.

The Eagles lost to the Bills that year. It was the game where Randall threw the 95 yard TD pass to Fred Barnett.

Now back to the Giants and 49ers, the two teams whose destinies seem to be intricably linked this season and they face each other one last time in the NFC championship game.

In one of the most memorable games in playoff history, the Giants won the game that seemed hopeless in the last moments when LT knocked Montana out of the game and punched the ball out of Roger Craig's arms and won 15-13. It was one of the most shocking upsets ever, and with the loss the 49ers dynasty ended and their team was remade after the season. Montana will never start for the 49ers again.

And after all that, everything culminated in maybe the most epic Superbowl of all time. Superbowl 25. 20-19. Wide right. The SB that proved power still wins football games. With two games the spoiler Giants had ended one dynasty and prevented another one from ever starting.

What if the Bills won that game? What if the 49ers beat the Giants? A lot of NFL history was changed by two games that were decided by a total of 3 points.

Anyways whew sorry for the long rant. But these days when I look back in the past that 1990 season always stood out to me as the most dramatic and exciting, not just for Eagles fans but for all NFL fans. It really had everything.

And 2007 and 2011. Thankfully I was only turned 4 in December 1990 so I didn't witness the first 2 Giants titles. My first memory is the 92-93 season when Dallas started to dominate.

Marshall not LT. Free agency was in 93, not in 91.
