Posted November 28, 20223 yr Looks like 49 defensive snaps, so 98 for the DEs. Our 3 DEs took 61 of the 98. Which means that roughly 40% of the snaps we had 3 DTs on the field, yet we got gouged on the ground. Where were the LBs filling gaps? Where were they pre snap? I'm a believer that LBs can fill gaps at the line pre snap, taking the QB's eyes lower and away from reading the coverage. Then drop back at the snap or selectively blitz if they have a lane into the backfield. I can't remember us doing that at all last night or many times in other games. The LBs are too far off the ball and not filling lanes nearly fast enough. We scored 40 points, ran for all those yards but didn't cover the early week line of 7 points. The scheme needs to be adjusted mid game when necessary to bring the LBs closer to stop the run. And why wouldn't they be there anyway? They can always drop back on the snap. Would love to hear your thoughts on our shoddy run D and why it's happening.
November 28, 20223 yr Kyzir white is basically a safety playing off ball LB and Edwards while good instincts is overmatched most plays, pass or run, he's a tough hard worker but really lacks any explosion or speed. People keep talking about how he is 3rd in the league in tackles yet how many of those are 4-5 yards down field? I've been more impressed with Edwards in coverage where he seems he's gotten better, like I said he's a limited athlete but he has good instincts and he's usually in the right place. I think most of it is scheme, Gannon would rather drop guys in college average rather than shore up the run. Even when Davis was playing eagles were still only I think 15th against the run. He'll help when he comes back but seems cox and Hargrave are more interested in just rushing the passer than actually playing the run. It's like hugh Douglas said about trotter telling him to play the run and he says eff that I'm getting sacks...😄
