DaEagles4Life Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Seinfeld, Curb your Enthusiasm, Always Sunny, Workaholics are some examples of this where the plot is so slow moving or barely exists the show is literally about nothing. For some reason these are my favorite types of shows. Anyone have any recommendations on others like this?

Ever see a show called Coupling? There was the original UK version then the US made a version, though I never watched the latter. Thought it was really funny, at least the first couple seasons then one of the main characters left and they replaced him with an almost identical character, though just not as funny. Might have to check out Inbetweeners.
dawkins4prez Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 The Walking Dead, when it was good. Many of the best episodes were about people searching for cans of beans.

TEW Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 The League was kind of like this, but I only watched the first 2 seasons or so. 1

NOTW Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Are these shows really about "nothing?" Or have shows evolved to have some kind of over arching plot that old school shows about characters put into a different situation each week seems like "about nothing." Seinfeld billed itself as a show about nothing but it wasn't. It was about a comedian using experiences from his personal life and his wacky/neurotic friends living in New York as material for his stand up. Sitcoms are not usually plot driven as far as an end goal. They create characters and a setting and can run for unlimited seasons. Dramas can be like that as well, the case of the week shows. 1
homerpat Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 I would say while Curb has overarching seasonal plots it’s still generally never advancing the plot. If you want a show about nothing try the bachelor or some garbage like that
