AJ BROWN IS CLOSING IN ON THE EAGLES SINGLE-SEASON RECEIVING YARDS RECORD

December 19, 2022

AJ Brown

With three games to go, WR AJ Brown has a real chance to break the Eagles single-season receiving yards record.

fter posting a career-high 181 yards on nine receptions in Week 15 against Chicago, AJ Brown sits at 1,201 yards for the year, a career-high for the 25-year-old wideout.

As it stands, he’ll need 209 more receiving yards to eclipse the team’s single-season record for receiving yards held by Mike Quick, who put up an astounding 1,409 yards on 69 receptions back in 1983. Brown’s 2022 output has already surpassed a handful of notable receiving seasons in Eagles history, like Terrell Owens’ 2004 campaign, where the Hall of Fame pass catcher racked up 1,200 yards on 77 catches in 14 starts.

AJ Brown’s 1,201 receiving yards ranks seventh in Eagles history for a single season

Though the Eagles have three games remaining, it’s tough to say whether Brown and the rest of the starters will suit up for all three. If the team manages to take home another W on Christmas Eve against the Dallas Cowboys, they’ll win the NFC East and clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC postseason, essentially rendering the remaining two games pointless.

If the Eagles win this upcoming Saturday, there will be a lot of debate on how the team should handle the rest of the regular season.

My prediction – the Eagles win on Saturday and decide to play their starters against New Orleans the following week before shutting them down for the season finale against New York.

Although the Saints game won’t have any playoff implications attached to it, the Eagles hold New Orleans’ first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. That pick currently sits at ninth overall. Handing the Saints another L could see that selection inch closer to the top-five.

So, even if Brown only has two games to break Quick’s 39-year-old record, it’s still plausible that he breaks it.

Regardless of how AJ Brown finishes out the 2022 regular season, he’ll still go down as one of the best offseason acquisitions in Eagles history.

He may well fall short there due to playing time. Although I think he plays Saturday and then he may see some action against NO so he's got an outside chance. I hope he does break the record because he's been such a great addition this year.

I'm interested in how much he contributes to an Eagles SB victory this year. Those stats will matter the most.
