This would be a great idea if Dillard were a typical tackle, but he isn't. Tackles typically get moved to guard because they lack the athleticism to play outside. In Dillard's case, his problem is that he isn't strong enough to handle power rushes by bigger defensive ends. So moving him to guard would neutralize all his best attributes and accentuate his worst one.

Peters would be fine at guard. The only questions are whether he would want to play there, whether the Eagles want to pay him to play there and whether it is worth the risk of replacing one guy who seems to get injured all the time with another guy who seems to get injured all the time.

Yes it's not ideal, but LG is way different than RG.  Need to have better feet and be a better pass blocker and be able to pull/move.  Being the same side makes it much easier.  And not being out on the edge allows him to develop in PP while being protected inside.  But the kid is as soft as Charmin so my expectations for him are about nil.  Hopefully he doesn't get Carson knocked out at LT

If Brooks says "you know what, my body is telling me to call it a career" and retires, that represents a 19,691,339 cap hit, eating up 12 million of the free space we were hoping to roll over.

He's already said he will be back and better than ever.

Everyone says that right away.  Let’s see how rehab goes

The Eagles cannot afford to go into the season with Pryor and Driscoll at RG. Even IF one of them plays well enough to earn the job they are going to need more depth on the OL. Me personally, I would sign Warford or Long and plug them right in. At the very least I would bring in Leary or Kline to complete for the job. I realize they want to carry money over due to some cap issues coming up in 2021 but you can't go cheap when it comes to the OL.

The Eagles liked Herbig and Opeta enough to keep them on the roster last year, so they have some depth. Realistically, someone out of that group should be good enough to be at least be an average starter. Roster spots are pretty valuable, so if you use one on an UDFA, the idea is that he has shown enough to develop into something.

On a related note, If one of those guys earns the job, it is entirely possible that our 2019 UDFA class (Edwards, Opeta/Herbig) will have produced as many starters as our draft (Dillard, Sanders), which probably isn't ideal.

Ugh.

This won't play here, but you can click on it and go to YouTube to watch it:

"season"...

I'm telling you, there is something with the fields or the equipment. They need to look at shoes and at the turf. This happens way too frequently- major soft tissue injuries.

how did it happen? They haven't even been in camp!!!!

He was at Novacare rehabbing his shoulder and they were doing wind sprints for conditioning and he popped it running.

This blows...

Ahh crap here we go again

Yeah it's hard to think it could happen with Texans and Cowboys hit with Covid. I read Elliot took every precaution necessary and he still got it.

I heard he was making out with some dude and that's how he got it.

If that is the case on your last point, the draft guys did not perform well.  But for the team, it was a good haul with multiple contributing players, disregarding how they were acquired.

In addition of OG position, Herbig and Opeta are also considered as the back-up at C.  Kelce has been playing well, but he may drop off sometime.  He is also talking about retiring in recent years.  Need someone ready to step in when required.

Is that just the guaranteed money? I didn't think contracts were guaranteed in the NFL past that, so if he retired they don't have to pay him, so why would it still be on the cap?

So these are the new rehab people?

I hope he does come back and is just as great as he has been but I'm skeptical that after two Achilles tears that he'll be the same. Such a freak injury, I feel bad for the guy

Retired players act the same as a cut in the eyes of the cap. So all prorated bonuses (Howies favorite) come due.

After June 1 can't they split it between 2 years?

I was wondering the same. Does a post June 1sr retirement work the same as a post June cut?  I’m not sure

Looks like it’s exactly like cuts. In fact, you can designate a player who retires before June 1st a post June 1st cut. The cowboys did it with Frederick

So cap hit, not so bad. Howie wins again.

Not really.  Howie needs every cent of space he can get given the 50 million over he is in 2021.  Either way this would be an additional 8 million more he needs to find.
