Desai seems like the most Eagles hire. Fangio disciple who doesn't blitz a lot but slightly more than Gannon.  But who knows? Maybe it's always been Wilson and this is just them taking the chance to talk to people which they like to do

Damn good question.  Dan Quinn is the only one I can think of...he was the DC at Florida before going pro.  But, I think he had some NFL assistant coach experience, went to college to be a DC, then came back to the NFL.  I can't really think of anyone who had 0 NFL experience and was a college DC that went to the NFL.

If Patricia is moving on I wonder if Jerod Mayo is moving up in New England, I was a bit surprised we hadn't looked at him until I just read he turned down a DC interview at the Browns

Yup - he was DL coach in Seattle before the move to college (DC at Florida for 2 years) before returning to Seattle as DC.  He also had stints as DL coach with a few other franchises before he became DL coach in Seattle, so plenty of NFL experience before the move to the college ranks.

Can you think of any college DC that went to the NFL without having any prior NFL experience?

Saban - DC at Michigan St before moving to the NFL as a DB coach with the Oilers.  

Jim Mora - DC at Washington before the move to the NFL (initially DL coach in Seattle).

Neither went straight to DC. That's a tough task. To ask a 32-yr old or so who never coached or played in the pros to walk into a room with men is an iffy proposition.  Not impossible of course but seems less than ideal

You could be right. They do like interviewing people and gathering a ton of information from many opposing sources. It is actually a very smart thing to do. You can see many different viewpoints and ways people do things and possibly incorporate some of the things that are gathered from these sessions into practice.

I don't disagree (and made sure to include the positions they held when they first jumped to the NFL).

I don't mind promoting the DB coach to DC but I was getting a little excited about something different from outside the team

I think everyone expects Johnson to be promoted to OC
