This is often the case after a team loses the Super Bowl. Still, the offense will be in tact for the most part, and may even be beefed up with fresh additions from the draft. I'm hoping for an upgrade at the RB position. The defense is going to drop off significantly I believe since that is where most of the team's losses will have occurred. Even if we weren’t about to limit ourselves with what we can do in free agency due to a contract that will eat a large % of our cap (Hurts) and weren’t going to lose any players in free agency I’d think we’d still take a step back for the following 2 reasons: 1) Expecting to go 14-3 (regular season) again just isn’t realistic (we’ve never done that before and have only won 12 or more games in a season a handful of times). 2) We’re going to have a much more difficult schedule. But even when taking into consideration those 2 and coupling them with a mega contract for Hurts and losing quite a few key players in free agency, I think we still have enough horses on offense to make the playoffs and make some noise.

When you have a QB who is a proven winner & playoff performer then you have a shot every year especially if your OL is solid
March 7, 20232 yr 14-3 may be a stretch but the offense isn't much changed and I think that's good enough to win against most of the NFC, the defense needs a decent draft and some contract magic to bring back a couple of pieces, Linebacker is a worry, Dean should be OK to start but Edwards was a lot better than he was given credit for last season and with White leaving as well that's a big hole in the middle of the field, especially if Hargrave and Fletch are both gone.

Hoping Edwards is one of the guys we are able to retain. If I had to choose 2 it would likely be CJGJ and Edwards. Dean steps into White's spot and we draft both CB and DT early.
March 7, 20232 yr Author All the reports on potential coaching hires, completely forgot to include this one (regarding Mike Pettine). Mike Pettine reportedly in the mix to join the Eagles’ coaching staff The Bucks County native could reunite with Sean Desai in Philly. By Brandon Lee Gowton The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly hiring Sean Desai as their new defensive coordinator. And it appears they might hire a former Desai associate to work with him. Geoff Mosher reports he is hearing that Minnesota Vikings assistant head coach Mike Pettine could join the Eagles’ coaching staff. Pettine joined the Vikings with his current title in 2022 after serving as a senior defensive assistant for the Bears in 2021. That was the same year Desai served as Chicago’s defensive coordinator. Given Desai’s relative youth (turns 40 in April) and inexperience (one season as DC), there’s some sense in adding a more seasoned coach to assist him. Pettine fits the bill considering he’s been coaching in the NFL since 2004 and he’s held defensive coordinator roles with the New York Jets (2009-2012), Buffalo Bills (2013), and Green Bay Packers (2018-2020). Pettine was also the Cleveland Browns’ head coach for two years (2014-2015) As an added bonus, Pettine is a local guy. The Doylestown, PA native attended high school at CB West. He was a head coach at William Tennent High School and then North Penn High School towards the beginning of his coaching career. Would be kind of cool to have a hometown flair on the Eagles’ defense with Pettine being a Bucks County guy and Desai having attended/coached at Temple. Plus there’s obviously Camden, NJ native and Temple alumnus Haason Reddick as a defensive cornerstone on the field. If the Pettine hire goes through, the Eagles could look to give him the title he had with Desai in Chicago. The Birds also still have a linebackers coach spot to fill after losing Nick Rallis to the Arizona Cardinals. https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2023/2/28/23619124/mike-pettine-eagles-sean-desai-nfl-news-coaching-staff-vikings-defensive-assistant-head-coach-bucks

Around the league Desai was a more desired interview than Wilson fwiw.

Anything short of making it to the Super Bowl would be considered a down year compared to 2022. That was a damn good team and should have one it all if we had a competent DC. I would be disappointed mightily if they weren't contenders again this year. Bengals were still in the running even after losing the Super Bowl the previous year. Team will look different yes. But the core is still here especially on the offensive side. Defense likely takes a few steps back but this is an offensive league. If anything they'll have to win some shoot outs. I'm looking for them to buck the trend and win the NFC East again back-to-back. Start there.

They can somewhat make up for the loss of talent on defense with better scheme / defensive play calling. Hope Desai is up for the task and does a much better job at preventing mediocre QBs from looking like the next Montana.

Fortunately he does have a pass rush and the return of his veteran corners to assist in that area. The 2022 defense was vastly superior to the 2021 defense talent wise. I realize that this defense probably won’t be as talented as 2022, but it is more talented that 2021 so even if they take a step back it shouldn’t be as bad as making bums look like hall of fame quarterbacks and if they do look that bad I have to blame the coach. Admittedly though the quarterbacks faced this year will be better than most of the lot from last year.
