I could be wrong, but I believe coaches have offsets, so Lovie would make the same dollar amount regardless, but whatever he makes as a DC would be subtracted from whatever Houston has to pay him.

This is true.

At minimum, he will make all the money promised to him under the contract he signed.  

If he chooses to stay at home and do nothing until the "free money" is paid out, that would make him that much less valuable when he finally comes back to the market.  If he keeps his head in the game, he will get his next shot as a head coach that much sooner.

I would think he won’t want to take that much time off. One year maybe like Doug did.

Steichen goes- not ok, unless replaced by Reich.

If you replace him with Reich, you run a massive risk of losing Brian Johnson to another team as their OC. In fact, I bet Steichen brings him along as his coordinator to his new team if the Eagles don’t promote him. Do you really want to roll the dice on that? For all we know, Johnson could be the biggest factor in Hurts development. Can’t risk losing that.

Would hate to see both OC and QB coach go after this year.  It would be similar to Doug losing both Reich and Flip after year 2 ... we saw how that turned out.  Although the QB obviously plays a huge role in the outcome as well, and pretty safe to say, Hurts is wired a bit different than Wentz was/is.  But still, would be a huge loss to have both leave.

Exactly. If Hurts was in year 5 or 6 then I may be less concerned about losing his coaches. But after only his second year as a starter? I think it’s critical to at least keep his current QB coach on staff if he loses his coordinator.
 

Plus Reich is already getting HC interviews… chances are if he did come here as OC it’s probably one-and-done before he has another head coach job. Is losing Johnson worth probably only getting one year from Reich before having to replace him? I don’t think so.

By the way I agree with your point that it does seem odd the Texans would go back to back with defensive minded coaches if they went for Gannon. They say Gannon is a sharp mind (even if we don’t see that when he give press conferences) so maybe he has a plan to bring in a specific person to run the offense. I don’t think he’s HC ready material yet, but the Texans are a poorly run organization so it would be no surprise if they hired him.

Very good point.... something to think about. Reich helped the Eagles get to the Super Bowl, though, so I would risk it- hands down.

Gannon can go. He's replaceable. 

I'd prefer to keep the offensive side intact for now. If they're going to keep Hurts long term, and I suspect they will, he needs stability in this early part of his career.

One or both are likely gone. Idc about Gannon. The other I’m on the fence. He’s done some good things but his play calling is also very suspect at times.

I don't see the love for DC Gannon. I mean he has almost Pro Bowl talent at every position with depth (exception safety) and yet look at the points allowed, and speaking of safety you finally get C.J. Gardner-Johnson back and you put him at nickel (sure a position he has played most of his career) but he got famous for his role at Safety. I would rather see Zech McPhearson play nickel until Maddox can return and keep CJ at Safety.
Would it hurt to do a bit more blitzing in the Post Season especially on 3rd down?

Why not? Young QB everyone says is great. Talent on defense. Overall good team that’s been a victim of some dumb coaching choices over the past couple seasons.
