That's what I'm saying they let Shane go once so maybe he doesn't want to go back there.

Hard to turn down a HC job especially a favorable one. Much better than the Texans situation IMO.

Meh, he was the victim of a change at HC - he was promoted to OC in 2020 and then they hired Staley as HC in 2021 who brought in his own guys.  I don't see why he would hold anything against the organization.  If anything he'd probably be more inclined to pull the flaming bag of dog poo on the front porch prank on Staley.

I can’t understand the Gannon hate. When the defense is bad, he gets blamed. When they’re good, it’s all the players. Make it make sense.

The fact is he is the coordinator of a defense that finished the season 8th in points and 2nd in yards.

As far as Johnson/Reich, you have to also consider how important Johnson has been to Jalen’s development. Even this past offseason there were some rumors that Johnson could be on other teams’ radar as a potential OC. Can only imagine he looks like an even more enticing candidate after the season Hurts has had.

So in the end, if they don’t promote Johnson they could end up losing him. And who knows if/how that could impact  Hurts further development.

I agree on both points but I do think they can find a way to hire Reich as well. Maybe if they promote Johnson, hire Reich as QB Coach/Asst. Head Coach. Give him a nice title and bring him back. Sort of what they did with Duce.

I would like Reich back if one of our assistants gets hired as an OC similar to what you said but it will come down what Reich actually wants. Given his reputation he may be only looking for OC gigs, and if he can't get one, be prepared to sit out a year and wait for HC opportunities next year (like Doug). Or maybe something like consultant to the staff maybe more him than a full time assistant coach. Whatever the role, you have to think we are well placed given his relation with both Siri and this FO.

As an aside, the Eagles might already have the next QB coach on the staff in Marcus Brady - suspect that may be a reason he was brought in.

One good thing is that these guys know they will be judged by how well they coach in these playoffs.....their next coaching gigs are riding on it.

If Shane goes we get Frank back as OC. If Gannon goes we get Fangio as DC.

If Shane goes we promote Brian Johnson. If Reich doesn’t get a HC job this offseason, he will next year. I’m not risking losing Jalen’s QB coach to another team just to rent Reich for one season. If Steichen is hired away and the Eagles don’t promote Johnson, I’m betting he goes to be Steichen’s OC.

The Jets have expressed interest in Johnson to fill their vacant OC position and rumors of other teams also having interest.

They should promote him 100%

Not surprising. They need to promote him the day Steichen takes another job. Which if it’s going to happen, hopefully it happens before someone else poaches Johnson.

They can block interviews for Johnson till they see what happens to Shane I think

Can they? You may be right, but I thought if it was a promotion (position coach to coordinator, or any coach to head coach) that they couldn’t block that.

I'm almost positive that QB coach to oc isn't considered a promotion. Nevermind that was the old rule. In 2020 they don't let assistant positions get blocked from coordinator jobs anymore

I don't think it is a safe assumption that Steichen is a lock to be offered a HC spot.

I don’t think it’s a lock, but considering the number of jobs and the available candidates, I put the odds at over 50%. Coordinators always seem to be hot candidates when they play a role in a QB taking a massive jump from one year to the next.

Houston and Indy both have top 5 picks, need a QB, and have a head coaching vacancy… Steichen’s reputation now as Jalen’s OC I think will be very tempting for both those teams. Especially Houston if they plan to take Bryce Young.

Going after another one of our offensive coordinators lol.  This is a good system we have going on! Chargers keep letting them go, we pick em up and win super bowls with them then hand them off to the colts lol.

The 2nd interview with Steichen is scheduled for tomorrow.  Wish they'd install a rule that prevents teams from being able to interview coaches until their team is done playing for the year.

I’d think Jemal Singleton would be next OC. RBs have performed great and he’s already the assistant HC.

The QB has performed pretty damn well too...

If you don't promote Johnson, then you can say goodbye to him. Someone will hire him. Heck, I bet Steichen would bring him along as his OC. Do you really want Jalen to lose both of his coaches in one off-season? I sure don't.

Problem with that is you then put coaches at a disadvantage for those jobs as teams are afraid to miss out on other candidates if they wait.

Depends on if he has experience calling plays or not. Jalen has taken a huge leap this year but so has every RB. Our OC needs to be ready to call plays and know what Siri is thinking. I’d assume the assistant HC would be his next pick to pick up where the OC leaves off.

I mean wasn't Duce assistant head coach as well? It's just a shiny title, doesn’t mean he’s next in line for anything.

They did that to keep him around. As soon as they couldn’t give him anymore titles or money he left. Assistant HC takes on more roles to prepare them to move up. Duce was trying to advance and took everything he could in hopes to become the OC. Most organizations try to move people up this way but they didn’t see it in Duce.

Well then word the rule such that no coaches can interview for any open positions until after the Super Bowl.
