I forgot about Zimmer. He'd be a good choice too. Very aggressive defensive play caller. He loves those double A gap blitzes.

Eagles lose both. Very surprising. Sirianni already has a coaching tree.

Yeah I saw that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Irsay commands them to get that #1 overall pick for his "Manning-Luck-Young” narrative

it makes a lot of sense for a Chicago - Indy trade to get Indy to 1

I think for both OC and DC they need to get someone who's experienced, we don't have time for any more kids learning on the job, it's bad enough that the HC is learning on the job, surround him with experienced coordinators.

As we saw Sunday, kids that are learning on the job can't make in-game adjustments, they don't have their Maddens available to test their calls.

I'm fine promoting an OC from within since you already have Siri and he's an offensive minded HC. However, you damn well better go out there and get a vet DC.

He didn't do so well at calling plays which has me questioning if he's a fraud offensive mind.

Here's what I'd like to see from an OC, 1) demand a strong runner 2) stop using Hurts as runner,  that QB keeper on the RPO should be so rare that it's a surprise when it happens, dude has shown he can get it done with his arm so let him do so 3) focus on distributing the ball in the passing game to all of the skilled positions

They'll definitely have to switch it up. Opposing DCs catch up fast so I agree there. Gonna need some fresh takes on the offense preferably that don't put QB1 at risk. I'm not worried about the offense at all though. That damn defense though.

Steichen in some ways is the bigger loss since he is the better coach in my opinion. However, the offense is still Siri's and you'd like to think that Brian Johnson can step into a play calling role and the offense won't skip a beat.

I don't care about the numbers, Gannon sucks. His defense is vanilla and 100% relies on the players to do everything. His scheme is simple and makes life extremely easy on AQB's. There is a reason every time the Eagles have faced a good QB over the last two years they have diced up the defense. I will take my chances with an outside hire and hopefully someone with a pedigree and willingness to adjust and bring some pressure now and again.

Blessing in disguise.  Now Howie can fix the mistake right away so we are back in the hunt next year.  Am sure the brass is fuming over Gannon’s egg.  Totally unacceptable at this level.  And he got promoted elsewhere.  Gimme a break.  Should have been canned.

I don’t think Siri will take playcalling back. He has said he likes to be able to focus on everything else throughout the game. If Brian Johnson is promoted from QB coach I’m guessing he calls plays.
 

He did it when he was Florida’s OC I believe. And they were the 13th scoring offense in the nation that year, and his QB (Kyle Trask) had a monster year with 43 TDs to 8 interceptions. If they promote him, I think they’ll be in good hands.

I, too, hope Sirianni doesn't take playcalling back.  He needs to be on the ball with the in-game management stuff and not be distracted even slightly with other responsibilities like calling the plays and figuring out how to adjust.

fter offensive coordinator Shane Steichen departed to become the Colts' new head coach, the Eagles are in the market for a new OC. The obvious choice seems to be an in-house promotion, bumping up current quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson, whose done wonders working with Jalen Hurts.

Speaking on 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday morning, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter appears confident that Johnson is the person for the job:

"The offensive coordinator is going to be Brian Johnson, that I don’t think there’s any question there. That you can take to the bank basically." [97.5 The Fanatic]

It makes sense. Johnson has helped oversee Hurts' transformation from an uneven passer to one of the game's top quarterbacks since joining the organization in 2021. He'd likely be primed for an offensive coordinator job elsewhere after the Eagles' 2022 success, so staying in this system that has done all parties well is the simplest and likely best solution here. 

Hurts has a longstanding relationship with Johnson. Hurts has known Johnson since his youth, dating back to the days that Hurts' father, Averion, was an assistant coach at Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas, where Johnson played football. 

Two years into their NFL tenure together, the match has worked out as best as possible for the Birds, for Hurts and for Johnson. 

Before coming to Philly, Johnson was the quarterbacks coach at the University of Florida, Howie Roseman's alma mater, in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, he became the Gators' offensive coordinator in addition to his QB coach duties. Johnson played quarterback at the University of Utah in college, where he was named MVP of the 2009 Sugar Bowl and was featured on the Playstation 3 "NCAA Football 10" cover:

Cardinals release defensive coordinator Vance Joseph; coach to interview with Broncos, Eagles, per report

The Arizona Cardinals are in the middle of a transformative offseason. The club revamped the masthead by hiring GM Monti Ossenfort and recently brought in Jonathan Gannon to be its next head coach. As the Cardinals go through this change, the organization is shedding itself of some figures from the regime, including defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. The Cardinals informed Joseph that they intend to relieve him of his coaching duties, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson.

Joseph had been leading the Cardinals defense dating back to 2019 when they initially hired Kliff Kingsbury as head coach. Given that the Cardinals are going through a coaching change, it's not a big surprise to see them hand the reins over to Gannon and allow him to craft his staff in his own image, which oftentimes comes at the expense of coaches like Joseph. That said, Arizona's defense wasn't exactly pristine under Joseph in 2022. Last season, the unit allowed 26.4 points per game (second most in the NFL) and 348.9 yards per game, which ranked in the bottom half of the league. 

That said, it doesn't sound like Joseph will be out of a job for long as he has a couple of interviews already lined up across the NFL. The 50-year-old is set to interview on Friday with the Denver Broncos for the open defensive coordinator position on Sean Payton's staff, according to 9News in Denver. He is also set to interview later with the Eagles for their open defensive coordinator job following Gannon heading to Arizona. 

Of course, Joseph is no stranger to Denver as he was the head coach of the Broncos from 2017-2018. 

Joseph, who played in the NFL for two seasons, first entered the coaching ranks in the league with the San Francisco 49ers as an assistant defensive backs coach in 2005. He made stops in Houston and Cincinnati as a defensive backs coach before ascending to defensive coordinator for the Dolphins in 2016. After that season he became the Broncos head coach and then found his way to Arizona more recently.

Joseph is intriguing because the blitizing is such a departure from what we've been doing. Then again the results haven't been great.  Lots of factors go into that like talent.  He is well thought of which is usually meaningful
