Posted February 8, 20232 yr EAGLES OWNER JEFFREY LURIE TALKS POTENTIAL JALEN HURTS CONTRACT EXTENSION DURING SUPER BOWL OPENING NIGHT By Brian Cass February 7, 2023 If you had any concerns about the Eagles extending QB Jalen Hurts after his MVP caliber season, Jeffrey Lurie’s comments during Super Bowl Opening Night should put your mind at ease. When asked about the possibility of handing Hurts a contract extension by ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, Lurie was clear about the Eagles’ intentions. "I don’t think he has anything to prove,” Lurie said. "He is an MVP-caliber quarterback, an incredible leader of the team on the field, off the field. He’s 24 years old, incredibly mature and, most importantly, driven to be even better. What we’re seeing today I think is just the beginning for Jalen. This guy will attack every weakness as he has since high school, since college. The future is bright and very exciting for all of us.” The Eagles QB only has one year remaining on his rookie contract. Since Hurts was a second-round selection, he doesn’t have a fifth-year option attached to his rookie deal. Per Spotrac, QB1 is slated to make $4.2 million next season. There have been a flurry of huge quarterback contracts in recent years. Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson, and Aaron Rodgers have all received lucrative deals within the past 12 months, all of which are north of $45 million per year. We should expect Hurts’ new deal to have a similar price tag. Obviously, the team isn’t overly concerned with a contract extension just yet. They have a Super Bowl to win on Sunday. "We’ll kind of handle that later on,” Hurts told reporters about his potential contract extension. "Get there when we get there.” https://thelibertyline.com/2023/02/07/eagles-lurie-hurts-extension/
February 8, 20232 yr I suspect a deal is already pretty much done. I think both sides have discussed terms and probably have most things ready to go following the SB win on Sunday. The future is bright with Hurts.

Let's hope it stays as bright once the talent around him regresses.

It’s always much more difficult to field a more complete team (with high end talent that is) once the QB eats 20% of the cap instead on 0.5%. Not that more reasons are needed but this really is one more to win it all now … just in case.

They then won the Super Bowl, tried to keep an aging team together, signed the QB to a massive extension, and within two years it all fell apart.
