Posted February 10, 20232 yr Howie was on fire these past couple of years to get the Eagles to the brink. Some of these moves were breathtaking: 1. Unloading Wentz on the Colts for a 1+ and ultimately getting Frank Reich fired 2. Trading down five spots in the 2021 draft, pocketing a 2022 no. 1, and still nabbing DeVonta Smith and Landon Dickerson. Home runs all around. 3. Fleecing the Saints by snagging a 2, a 3 and a higher slotted 2023 no. 1 for the Dolphins pick - plus flipping first round draft slotting to Eagles advantage 4. Nailing Jordan Davis pick - and from the looks of things, the Cam Jurgens pick and Nakobe Dean pick, among others 5. Fleecing the Titans with their lower slotted no. 1 and snagging AJ Brown, ultimately getting Titans GM Jon Robinson fired 6. Signing Hassan Reddick, Kyzir White, and later, James Bradberry. More below the radar that turned out well is Zach Pascal. 7. Saving the season and the no. 1 overall seed by immediately signing Livnal Joseph and ND Suh after the loss against Washington on MNF. There's more, feel free to add. But putting together a roster like this with moves like this, and more, not to mention getting a coach AND a GM fired in the process, it's just unprecedented in this era.
February 10, 20232 yr 8. Recognizing that the Robert Quinn pickup wasn't what they thought it would be and pivoted into the Suh /Joseph deals...

I mean, yes Howie missed on Quinn, but man......if I'm the GM of another team and I see the 215 area code (or 267 depending) pop up on my phone, I'm hitting send to voicemail. lmao
February 10, 20232 yr I’m still of the mindset that future draft picks being less valuable is ridiculous. Like when a team trades a 5th rounder for a future 4th rounder because they have the same "value”. What I believe is happening is the GM of a team doesn’t know whether or not they’ll still have their job in a year or two, so they don’t recognize those picks for what they are. Therefore, Howie trading a 1st round pick in 2022 to a team we know isn’t going to be great in 2023, and getting their first (which turned out to be 10th overall) PLUS a 2nd round pick PLUS a 3rd round pick is the most bizarre "equal value” thing to me in all of sports. Because Howie’s seat is safe for awhile, he should do this every year. By 2027 we’ll have 8 day 1+2 picks
February 10, 20232 yr Author Quick informal poll. Which pick was better: 1. Justin Jefferson in the first round with the 22nd pick by the Vikings in 2020. 2. Jalen Hurts in the second round with the 53rd pick by the Eagles in 2020. For all the flak Roseman deservedly took for getting the Reagor pick wrong, it's being proven that 2020 is turning out to be a solid draft year for the Eagles with the Hurts pick. Crazy how you really need to wait these things out in the NFL.

I think if Hurts is the leader and starting QB for this team for the next 6-10 years and is as good or better as he was this year, it’ll be him. WRs are dime a dozen, QBs aren’t.

If we get both though, there is a possibility Jefferson goes off in his rookie year like he did in Minny and we win 7-8 games. Suddenly Wentz and Pederson are still here and that Hurts pick is thus far a dud, DeVonta is a Giant, AJ Brown is an unhappy Titan, and we’re mired in mediocrity. We may not win the 2017 SB without Nelson Agholor, and Jalen Reagor got us to where we are now. Butterfly effect is some crazy stuff.

Things worked out perfectly.

Or, Wentz loses the locker room and continues making dumb mistakes/injured and Hurts still becomes the starter and everything goes as usual. And we have Smitty and Jefferson right now and 2 first round picks last season etc etc. I like the way this worked out. I’m just saying. If and buts can go any way.

I’m pretty confident they wouldn’t have DeVonta if they had taken Jefferson.
