February 15, 20232 yr Replacing two coordinators in the off season after a Super Bowl appearance is no small feat. I suspect Steichen will be especially hard to replace. His job is more than play calling - and that's important enough. He's in charge of the offense. If we're promoting from within, is Brian Johnson up to the whole package of duties that comes with being an OC? It's almost like being a mini HC. Gannon's a different story. Eagles put together a strong defense, but his shortcomings as a strategist against good QB's was readily apparent. I hope the Eagles find an upgrade there. Big challenge for the organization this offseason. No team since the Niners from the mid nineties had to replace two coordinators after a Super Bowl.
February 15, 20232 yr Johnson and Dennard will be new coordinators. We can find QB coach/DBs coach anywhere.
February 15, 20232 yr We should get compensation picks for losing both both coordinators, on top of the comp picks were are going to be getting because of FA.

Honestly when you look at how talented the Eagles roster was this season, I don't think JG is a good DC. The defense seemed to be completely outcoached in the Super Bowl. Steichen might have been good but Nick is supposed to be an offensive HC so the team shouldn't really hurt that bad after losing him either. GO BIRDS!

You have to wonder, if they don't promote Brian Johnson, do they look at bringing in Kliff Kingsbury (who developed Mahomes when he was at Texas Tech and knows the Big 12 very well from when he was at TT) to be the OC?

I wouldn't care either way, really- but we are stuck with him for now. The best coach on the team is gone. THAT sucks. Same thing happened after 2017, and by the Colts as well. Eagles needed to win THIS Super Bowl. They actually won 35-31... but the god of Philly media gave KC a free 7 points, with a pee wee football choke, where he wasn't even touched. But they love their little football god they created, and bow down to the guy who cost the Eagles the Super Bowl. Insanity rules in Philly. Not for me, though. I wash my hands of this garbage. So here we are. Lurie and Howie just might get us some good OC/DC's. Then we can get all the way back to the Super Bowl, and hope doesn't pull another pee wee league choke again. Foles sure as hell never choked. Not once. Behold YOUR king: Hurts performance is the only reason they were even in the game. Dude put up almost 400 yards of total offense and 4 TDs. Without that level of performance they’d have been blown out.
February 15, 20232 yr Talonblood, Foles never choked...you mean in one game, or when he was the starter following the Super Bowl win? Are you suggesting that we get a player and just play him in the Super Bowl, for just one game? Interesting. Look Hurts fumbled the ball. It was a mistake and it happened. It doesn't happen often, but those things happen, unpredictably. You hate to see it happen, but unless you can point out some kind of consistency, you can't really fault him for that. It was just a bad turn of events. I realize that it cost the Eagles the Super Bowl.

I wouldn’t put too much credence on anyone who "developed” Mahomes while in college. Mahomes was still somewhat of a project when coming out of college. Andy Reid is who helped Mahomes become who he is today at the NFL level.

Andy had the luxury of sitting Mahomes for almost his entire rookie season, only playing him in a meaningless game at the end of that regular season because he still had Alex Smith, who turned into a very reliable QB under Reid. Mahomes learned a lot during that time. Most HCs don't have that luxury any longer. This past season for the Cardinals was thrown off the rails by numerous injuries and never really having their complete offense on the field. If the Eagles don't promote Johnson, Kingsbury would be an intriguing option knowing he had Mahomes before Andy.

He also listened to Shane's play calling through the headset and sits in on gameplanning. He might actually be an improvement. I think that Brian Johnson might be quite good, and I think he should be the choice. The Florida offense that he was OC of was pretty interesting. This is pretty close to a "ain't broke don't fix it" scenario. You bring in someone from the outside, when you have an offense that was good, that you want to preserve, they might be changing something away from what works. New guy might have different preferences from what worked. It's said the Ravens would have hired him for OC, but it was fully expected that when Shane left, the Eagles would give Brian the OC job. I'm kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet.

We'll see with SF since DeMeco Ryans is now a HC in Houston.
February 16, 20232 yr Of the 3 phases of the team, ST had the lowest performance. Should there be a change of the ST coordinator to boost the performance next season? If so, we shall have all new coordinators for the team.

In that super bowl I’d say every group at some point cost the Eagles a chance at victory. It just seemed like ST and the defense choose the worst possible moments to really blow it, but it certainly didn’t help the offense stalled on that long drive nor did it help when the offense went three and out, the punter kicked a terrible kick, a nobody cast off receiver has the best return of his career, and the defense let the Chiefs just walk in on a wide open play. It was a total team loss.
