Posted February 15, 20232 yr Looking at the output that KC got out of their picks and comparing with ours its not even close. Round 1, Pick 13 (from Browns via Texans): Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia Round 2, Pick 51: Cameron Jurgens, C, Nebraska Round 3, Pick 83: Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia Round 6, Pick 181 (from Lions): Kyron Johnson, LB, Kansas Round 6, Pick 198 (from Steelers via Jaguars): Grant Calcaterra, TE, SMU You could argue that not one of them has produced anything of note this season. Yes we got to the superbowl, but it was because of the FA signings, the drafts picks were irrelevant. Not necessarily their fault they didnt' play, but maybe howies fault for drafting the wrong players. vs Was pacheco the best value pick of the entire draft?
February 15, 20232 yr No. They all made the team and contributed in some way. You can't officially day a draft class is a dud until at least 2-3 seasons so only time will tell. With that said, they 100% have to nail this draft to even sniff the success they had this season due to the cap mess lord Howie has put them into smh. I doubt anyone can restructure but I can honestly see us needing two starting corners with Bradberry walking and Slay being a potential cap casualty. Couple that with losing 4 DTs, 2 linebackers and more, this offense is going to need to put up even more points next season.
February 15, 20232 yr 😆 Davis has played well all year, just with limited snaps due to the guys in front of him. He will have a bigger role next year. He is going to be great. Jurgens was behind Kelce… how was he going to make an impact this year? He looked good in camp, and will either take over if kelce retires this offseason, or may move to guard to replace Seamalu if he leaves in FA. Dean played very well in his extremely limited opportunities. White is likely gone in free agency, and Dean will slide into that starting role. I think all three are going to turn out to be very good to great players. What did you expect in their rookie years? When you have a Super Bowl roster, you SHOULDN’T expect rookies to get a ton of snaps. You say maybe they drafted the wrong players, but tell me where there was room for ANY rookies to play much? The roster was pretty loaded almost at every position. Maybe a better safety than Epps but other than that? I don’t see where any rookie was going to play much at all for the eagles this year.
February 15, 20232 yr Author Look at the KC rookies. They seemed to do pretty well moore and Pacheco both scored TDs in the Super Bowl. What did ours do? Warm the Bench or collectively failed on special teams ?

February 15, 20232 yr Dean should be a starter next year so we'll see how he does. Davis should improve, and don't forget we spent a 1st for AJ Brown and that's a homerun in my book. Calcaterra has potential too, he showed some flashes. I wouldn't call it a failure at all right now.
February 15, 20232 yr It usually takes about three seasons before a draft class really shows what they’re capable of. Davis was an impact player until he got hurt. Dean had guys playing at a high level in front of him. AJ Brown was acquired with one of those picks. Jurgens will replace Kelce. The other guys were late round picks, but Johnson could turn into a pass rush specialist, and Calcaterra looks like he could become a solid pass catching TE. Not a failure or bust. Jury is still out if anything.

Pretty much all of this. Plus the fact that we traded away our 1st/3rd round picks for AJ Brown. You can’t look at the 2022 draft without considering the fact that we obtained a 1500 yard WR in the process.
February 15, 20232 yr The plan all along was to bring the young guys along slowly since there were established veterans ahead of them. The Eagles drafted with an eye toward the future: they brought in players they can develop into solid starters as soon as next year. That's how you replace guys who will inevitably leave or age out.
February 15, 20232 yr Davis did not play well this year. After watching him in college and not seeing that much I was surprised when Rosebud selected him in the first round. He's more of a project that the team likes to draft. Being that big and carrying that kind of weight I just don't see him in the future any more than a rotational player. As far as Dean goes, there's a reason why he was drafted in the third round. He's on the smallish side and like Davis, think he's rotational.
February 15, 20232 yr You don't draft for the immediate season only. So we'll know in a year or 2 if this draft was truly good or not. There are one year wonders, players that take a couple years to develop into starters, etc. Look at the 2018 draft: Sweat, Goedert, Maddox and Mailata were all drafted as backups to develop and now are starters. Davis was known to be a project to develop his pass defense and conditioning, but the ceiling on him was potentially so high it was worth the trade up if he might be a big time franchise player. Jurgens was drafted to replace Kelce and learn from him. Can't judge that yet, but the plan is to not have a dramatic drop off in talent when Kelce retires. Dean was drafted to develop as a backup who was recovering from injury, was the leader of the Georgia defense and potential to be a special player to lead our defense. With the pending free agents at LB, he could be a starter next year. You also have to consider they used draft picks to trade for stud WR AJ Brown, and to collect picks for the future. So what do they do with the Saints #10 pick. 6th round picks aren't expected to do much, but Grant contributed a little bit this year with Goedert out so it appears there is decent TE depth, let's see how he does in his 2nd season.
February 15, 20232 yr I get that we live in an instant gratification microwaved society, but this even too ridiculous for that.
February 15, 20232 yr Davis was also injured this year Although wasn't Jurgens after he was injured during draft?

Hopefully he will work hard this off season and be a solid starter next year, but not a great rookie season
February 15, 20232 yr Why do we keep letting these guys create bad threads lol. "Well they scored TDs in the Super Bowl Waahhhhh” You comparing our C and front 7 defensive players to their skill guys TDs? Lmao. Y’all getting silly around here.

Hopefully he will work hard this off season and be a solid starter next year, but not a great rookie season Leg injury and changing his position doesn’t help. He’d have looked a little better with a coordinator who liked to force a QB to keep the ball in his hands as well. PFF graded him as highest IDL in the class after the season. Also, if you’re basing it from SB, not only is the Chiefs line great, but players literally were struggling with being able to get their cleats into the ground to stabilize. At 6’6 340 having stable feet against the run is quite important.
February 15, 20232 yr Way too early to determine. For a start we all knew Jurgens was going to sit this year at the very least. And Dean well I think we all expected him to play more but I think his time is coming. The one slight disappointment was Davis but that's not to say he's going to be a bust I just think we hoped for more.

Davis before his injury was a major component for stopping the run, but I think he lost a lot of time after the injury. It became more of the vets afterwards and his play seemed significantly less.

February 16, 20232 yr I think it's easy to look at KC starting all the rookies on D and what the two on offense gave them and go damn. Compared to them it was a failure because they played and helped them win a ring. On a normal scale we have to wait and see. Hurts had multiple rookie years, so there is no rush.
