Came up in '59 and then rejoined the Phillies for the stretch drive in '80. Here's one - in 1972, Phils traded Rick Wise for Steve Carlton before the season started. Tim McCarver was still on the Phils opening day 1972. In June, Phils trade McCarver to the Expos for catcher John Bateman. Carlton had a good record at the time 7-6. But Carlton caught on fire with the last place Phils and went on a 15 game winning streak with mostly Bateman behind the plate. Ironic that McCarver, Left's personal catcher during the World Series Phils era, was traded away and not behind the plate for Lefty's greatest personal achievement, and one of professional baseball's greatest achievements - Steve Carlton's 1972 season.
