My little sister married a public defender, who eventually became a judge out in Colorado. He was always able to talk me out of supporting the death penalty.

I always qualified it with, well if somebody chops up one of my daughters with an axe, I know I would feel differently.

Jailing them seems to be an easy way out, push the problem down the road solution of cowardice. Having a prison population so large in the US is a real abomination. Land of the Free my puckered bung hole.
