Good player, but temperamental which can be problematic I‘d be more concerned about that if we didn‘t bring back all our veteran players.

Is he the kind of guy that will risk it all again next season thinking there might be significantly more money for him in 2024, or just take the 4 year/50 million dollar deal the Eagles have probably offered him. If I was him, and I'm not, I'd be all about negotiating the guaranteed amount of that contract. I agree. I think he’s looking for a contract no one is willing to give. That’s why if I’m Howie I try and convince him to bet on himself and go with a 1 year deal. He’s acting like a fool right now. His offers aren’t getting any better at this point.

I just wonder if the Eagles can afford another 1 year contract? I wonder whether something will get done in the 3 year 30 million range with 20 guaranteed. Let's the Eagles spread the hit and gives him another shot at free agency in his prime.

I’m sure Howie can figure it out. 1 year deals aren’t what they used to be. He can add some voidable years to make it more cap friendly.

The whole situation feels to me like we are dealing with a malcontent. It appears the Eagles realized this and changed direction to keep Slay instead. I think the Eagles plans are to settle for the comp pick, which is also sliding now as teams have less to spend.

Orrr... he could suck it up, run it back, bet on himself, play with probably the best 2 corners he'll have the opportunity to play with, prove that he can have an amazing full season as a safety, and get paid even more next year.

March 17, 20232 yr A lot of assumptions being made about his character based on very little. A professional athlete with an ego who spent one year with a team and hits free agency and now wants to get paid?!

March 17, 20232 yr I'm seeing stories rumoring that Mills might make a return. I'm guessing that's plan B.

And while the Saints lost Marcus Williams in FA (but gained the Honeybadger) last year, New Orleans still traded him. Throwing your DC under the bus publicly? Whether you’re right or wrong, it’s not a smart move if you’re about to hit FA. Especially if the organization you’re hoping to get an offer from is pretty high on their (former) DC. Tweeting that you feel disrespected cause no one wants to pay you like a top 5 safety? And yes that’s an assumption but what else would the hold up be about?! Money indeed! From a talent perspective I definitely want him back but it wouldn’t surprise me if he indeed burned some bridges. Look at the guys we brought back. The majority took less to come back. I get that you want to maximize your value but if CJGJ is looking for Bates money he’s out of his mind. One good season at that position doesn’t make you elite…at least not yet…

For him it‘s the first big contract.

He's been overrated by fans and himself. He wasn't one of the best safeties in the league last year. He showed promise as a playmaker but guys who played better as a safety got 6

Completion percentage against was tied with Epps. His rating against was around the same as Maddox, though. Blankenship was better in all the categories described. Than both him and Epps. CJGJ's pedigree is interceptions - he's more or less a corner (hybrid, technically). His tackle in the super bowl made people overrate him there too. None of this means he can't DEVELOP into a top safety. He could! But he's most certainly not there yet and there are other options as well.

When he was on the field suddenly Slay wasn't being targeted as much and looked better. He was also the best player on D in the SB and possibly the only one who showed up.

I don't disagree with the second half, I only question the true value of that statement in terms of long term retention. I think for the money CJGJ wants, it's probably possible to upgrade the position. That's really where it becomes difficult for me. And it only becomes more difficult as time goes on because there's several safeties out there still. As for the first half of that statement, that's fair, but that doesn't really show that's specifically because of Gardner-Johnson's skill as a safety. Don't get me wrong, I think he's probably a top 3 slot defender in the league, he's better in the slot than Maddox. But he definitely shows that he's more of a corner sometimes, both in discipline lapses and how he tackles.

Travis Fulgham was an excellent receiver for a small while and then fell off a cliff.
March 18, 20232 yr I'm ok bringing him back at around 3 for 27 with 18 guaranteed but i wouldn't mind adding Rapp and Myles Jack and calling it a day.
