Shame cause Penny is elite when healthy and I'd argue better than Sanders But .. like Mathews he's never healthy. Sanders wasn't the picture of health either. And this is why we go RBC. Backs get banged up too much That's a good comparison. I'd still like them to draft a RB at some point to have another healthy body in the rotation. Penny will be the guy who is nice to have when healthy but not reliable.

To all the guys acting like that means Slay will leave: I believe it when I see it. I bet we stick with Slay+Bradberry and we might still add a highly drafted CB. And that actually is the right way to go too if you ask me. Well f—. That didn‘t age well. 😁 I‘ll miss Slay. Not convinced Bradberry will look as good as a #1 as he did at the #2. Hope we won‘t regret this move. And Slay was funny as hell, too.

Cards sign Kyzir White. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/03/14/kyzir-white-agrees-to-terms-with-cardinals/ I missed this on the front page. Glad both Edwards and White are gone. Jack Campbell from Iowa in the Draft would be a good addition or Ivan Pace from Cincinnati. Some folks have mentioned Bobby Wagner on a one year FA deal.

If that's the case and that works out, I love keeping the younger corner and being able to re-sign CJG. What I wanted all along was to keep CJG and one of the corners (I thought it would be Slay), Blankenship remains and you draft a corner at #10 and the secondary is set. I don't understand the cap part, they can save that much money (awesome) but what's the downside to this? Just dead money, or do they lose money?
March 15, 20232 yr I'm actually okay with the Slay news. I think his play is declining and it doesn't make much sense to give him any big money that would negatively impact us later...for a player that likely won't return much on the investment. I'll miss him as a fun player to have around, though. Seems like a really good person and lockerroom presence.

Adds $8.6M dead money to this year’s cap and a fairly large dead money hit gets deferred to 2024. That’s the downfall. Seems every year recently we lead the league in dead money but it hasn’t really prevented us from making the moves we want to.

Ok, so essentially you save a big chunk of cap space and sacrifice a smaller chunk in dead money that you can kick down the road. The Howie specialty. I haven't always liked the leading in dead money but he's proven in the last couple years to be able to make great moves regardless so I'm not worried about that anymore.
March 15, 20232 yr Interesting. I thought if they released him they wouldn't get the cap savings until after june on the books. They released Cox like this before too right but then brought him back? Is there a chance they still sign Slay if he doesn't find what he's looking for?

Exactly …. on all of that.
March 15, 20232 yr I am surprised Bradberry was the first one to sign, CJGJ is still up in the air, and Slay is leaving.... My thought was signing CJGJ would be priority, they'd find a way to pay Slay, so Bradberry would be the casualty. I guess you never know.... I am not overly concerned about the guys they lost on defense. Guys like Davis and Dean deserve more playing time. They won't be as deep going into next season, but that's the way these things go.

I think I read it‘s no money ’saved‘, just the dead cap hit of 22,4M is now split over this season and the next. So we got 17M this year (post-june) but it‘s pretty much another kicking the can thing. Right?
