Yeah if they still pull of CJGJ that would be great. Having two All-Pro CBs was a luxury that unfortunately didn't even payoff when needed last year. Not to their fault though (FU Gannon).

If it is an outright release (ie not a post June 1 designation) then it will reportedly yield $4.846M in immediate cap savings (while we take on $21.265M in dead money to the 2023 cap).

The dead money is never a problem.  It's an accounting tool that never comes due.  This year's dead money pays last year's bills. Next year's dead money pays this year's bills. Every year, teams spend about the same and every team has dead money.  It's basically the owners giving themselves a loan.

And the Slay thing means $8 million in dead money but an additional $17 million in cap space, which is a win on the balance sheet, if not the field. 

Remember that Fletcher Cox was released outright last year.

I was thinking that this could be a similar move, but I'm not sure if it makes sense this time around. Maybe they work something out with Slay if CJGJ moves on. I just can't see us keeping everybody other than Epps.

Agreed that’s way too much at his age and with the role he should be playing. I get DT was a position of concern given everyone leaving but that’s still too much. I’d have preferred they brought back Joseph or Suh who would have been cheaper.

I love the guy, one of the 4 core guys left on this team. He's a great leader and still disruptive.

I mean they got Graham back for $6M... and he's way more of a leader and way more productive than Fletch at this point. I just think they could have got similar production to what Fletch will give for a lot less money.

If they hadn't signed Cox I'd have been fine with trying to get Suh back for a year. Would have been cheaper.

My thoughts exactly.  Had he taken a deal similar to BG ($6M) it might have been more well received overall.

I have to believe this is the final nail in the CJGJ coffin. I mean I don't see any possible way they can afford him (even for way less than anticipated) after giving Cox $10M.

If choosing between the 2, I would much prefer they try to bring CJGJ back before Slay.    Probably about the same $ (CBs in general warn more than safeties) and CJGJ is 7 years younger.

if he restructures his contract hey can save the money also just didn’t seem like he was willing to do so for the money the eagles wanted to give him… maybe after they said they we have to pass he is having second thoughts

Yeah - I think it would have been a really good move around the BG mark. 10 million feels like too much given his age and recent play (I know he got a fair few sacks, but so did most of the D-Line). Ah well - we have a pretty good D-Line rotation again at least.

Graham's production could be because of Cox, Hargrave and the interior. Don't slight that man.
