Now comes news from Josina Anderson of CBS Sports that Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman is working to find a way to keep Slay.

My guess is he’s staying but agreed to reworking his contract, which will free up some space for CJ… well, that’s my hope at least.

I‘m convinced he will be a great player.

And I think his contribution this year was underrated to begin with. That he takes a big jump is way more likely than him busting. Not sure Dean can shoulder the load now though, but I remain hopeful.

I like keeping Slay more for lockerroom purposes, but not too sure about his on-field play anymore.  I hope this doesn't kill the chances of keeping CJGJ...Either way, here's to hoping for the best

No, I don't ... CJGJ is in his prime and would be an integral part of the team for years if signed. Fletcher is a one year bandaid part time player at this point in his career. If the Fletcher signing does not interfere with signing Gardner Johnson then great.

Hopefully it is only a 1 year deal (2 max) because, as you eluded to, we are likely to see a decline in his play in the very near future.  We saw some of that toward the 2nd half of last season.  But perhaps the new DC will run a slightly different scheme that may help.  
 

If anything I’d think shelling out $10M in thank you money to Cox is probably going to be the bigger hindrance to getting something done with CJGJ, but if there is one GM that can make this all work, it is Howie, so I continue to have hope.  

Fletcher Cox is a below average player at this point whos only purpose is to give the other Linemen a breather. Don't get the 10 million signing at all. We could have  signed a few solid depth players for  that money.

Agreed...not really a fan of bringing Cox back at that number.  Sentimental Howie strikes again!

Not as extreme but in the same vein as Jeffery or Peters.  Thought he may have learned a lesson from those experiences but perhaps this was more to solidify the rotation and thinking the free agency pool was a bit lean with DT talent (and further that this draft class may not have a lot of top end talent)? 

I wonder if CJGJ is gonna wind up in Denver with his old coach and that's why things changed with Slay...

I would agree but we haven‘t seen that contract yet. Usually these look a lot better than the first reported number suggests.

I think we have had a great offseason so far! 

The one questionable move is Cox. I agree with the majority here, he just isn’t worth 10 million. We already had the leaders we need back in respect of BG and Kelce, both on very reasonable deals.

Love restructuring Slay and keeping Bradberry. Love bringing back BG and Kelce and the Penny move is low risk high reward. Even if he only plays 6-7 games he can help.

Now our only essentials are a safety (hopefully CGJ) and a linebacker. Plus getting the Hurts contract done.

But strong off-season so far - we can compete again in 2023!

Yeah I'd agree that there just aren't very many DT options...seemingly.  Doesn't appear to be an elite DT in the draft this year, but there's a few that are interesting.  Have to imagine they'll draft someone, though.

You mean how his 1 year, 10 mil deal is "structured" or something?  I agree with what you state, but generally for multi-year deals.

For sure, I think so too.  May not be someone regarded as a top end talent like Davis was last year but perhaps another Milton Williams type.  I don't want one at 10 ... Carter would have been the pick if we went that high but so many concerns.  (edit: but then again, the film don’t lie, regardless of his Pro Day showing).  Perhaps someone like Kancey at 30.  Or someone else if we trade back from that pick.

Man...the Eagles better do their homework on Carter.  At least they could have some insight on him via Dean and Davis.  Is Carter a "bad apple" or is he young and dumb?  Was his Pro Day disaster due to him going through some mental crap right now with everything?  Can he overcome it?  His talent is certainly top tier, but the Eagles would never draft someone that they feel wouldn't be a good culture fit.  But damn, will be tempting if he's there at 10 just based on talent.

DTs are getting paid though. He is still a quality player, even if he is diminished from what he was.

I like Dexter as he was a tackling machine who has the athletic upside to develop as a pass rusher. 

So he could play run downs right away and then see his role increase. A perfect target for the second round.

I am hoping the 10m include incentives, like.. number of sacks, etc.

If he only gets 10m if he plays well I’m fine with it.

I like the moves so far with keeping Slay, Bradberry & hopefully CJGJ. Losing both LBs is going to hurt but I am sure they have a plan to either get some via draft to possibly start OR go after some cheaper veterans (i.e. Bobby Wagner?)
