You'd offer it as a compromise to the player.  If the player rejected the multi year because it wasn't what he was looking for, then just doing a 1 year deal so he can test the market again next year is a compromise.  So, one party walked away from the other between Howie and CGJ.

In any case, we'll never know exactly what and how it went down.  Apparently CGJ's agency tweeted out what the Eagles offered and basically said that the one year deal he signed with Detroit was better.  And the fact that a player's agent would do such a thing may mean that negotiations between them and Howie were not exactly the greatest.

Maybe he offered a one year deal and he declined that too, we don't know.  The consensus is they pushed "hard" to keep him and he wanted to go test free agency elsewhere.  Bradberry was looking too, they had to keep 1 of them so they were able to get Bradberry who took less money because he wanted to play on a championship team.

All reports are that CJG was not valued around the league and they overestimated what he would get.  Time went by and he got nothing, and he settled for a 1 year deal with a team that has never in it's history even made it to a Super Bowl.

His agency's tweet reeked of desperation and was completely unprofessional and unheard of, written like a teenager on TikTok, trying to make it sound like they won.

A few things here make some sense .. we as fans love the splash plays, big talkers and hits (me included). CJGJ gave us a little bit of all of that. The problem is we as fans remember those plays, but don't really pay as much attention to the rest of the times where the player isn't directly a part of the play (as the #'s above show). Football personnel people look at the entire body of work while us fans get to pick and chose what we remember or pay attention to 🙂 Another thing is the scheme ... his size and style at the Safety position may not be for everyone; I'm sure many teams won't pay big money for a nickel back at Safety with not even a full year of service. Instead wanting a more traditional Safety size and style ... CJ clearly is not for everybody.

Not gonna miss cjBJHJ.  Dude has a me first attitude and is a toddler playing a grown up.  Ok he hits hard.  We didn’t notice he wasn’t playing for like 6 games.  Money spent better elsewhere without any drama.

Feel like we never made proper use of Pascal. Decent receiver. But maybe not the best foil for Smith and Brown. He deserves more targets.

Totally underutilized especially in the red zone.

That's a bit of a bummer.  Was hoping we'd be able to bring him back on another minimal deal.

Quez better improve on his mistakes that's for sure!

Our red zone offense was really good last year. I'm not sure that trying to feed the ball to freaking Zach Pascal would have made it any better.

Yeah true - I’m just saying that in terms of his utilization he would have been more valuable in those situations than quez for example.

Eagles love those Saints safeties.

Howie likes former Saints Safeties

Hmm

Not gonna read the thread to see if anyone else has made this point, but the Eagles have big problems knowing when to move on from players, the Cox and BG signing was dumb, that's 16 mil that could have gone towards retaining Johnson.

Cox should have been gone years ago when you could have gotten something for him, keeping Suh would have been a much better option.

I like that they paid BG on his last contract but to give him another wasn't the thing to do.

Johnson was never gonna sign back here.  He didn’t want Josie’s team friendly back loaded deal. That’s why they said it was "fake.”  The eagles can’t sit spring and wait for him, they had to get some guys signed and they did - bradberry, slay, etc.  can’t wait for him and then not have a date for the prom.

Yep - he was solid but unspectacular last year. He had a role and executed it well.

But understand from his perspective - there are limited pass catching opportunities here. He is never taking touches away from AJ, Smith, Dallas. With Cardinals, he could realistically see a lot more targets.

Eagles likely offered CJGJ a decent contract but he felt disrespected, spat in their faces and burned all bridges for a possible return.

Eagles moved on and prioritized re-signing Bradberry and keeping Slay happy.

There is no denying CJ is talented but there are also some character concerns. That’s why he fell to the 4th in the draft. Saints don’t trade a young talent like CJGJ for nothing. It’s probably a personality and immaturity thing…

Yup, 100% agreed. He totally social media'd his way out of Philly.

Not going to lie, I wanted them to resign him badly. But somehow now that they didn‘t I‘m not as sad as I thought I would be.

Plenty of holes still to fill but we aren‘t even past the draft yet. In Roseman I trust. Go Birds!

Justin Evans is just a camp body to provide some level of "competition".

Losing Pascal stinks.  I hope Howie doesn't overlook WR this offseason.  If we lose Brown or Smith for any length of time, we have nobody that can feasibly step up to keep the machine running.  We need a quality WR3.

As the 3rd WR, I liked him more for his blocking ability more so than to take catches away from the top 3 options.

He was a great blocker and team mate. Too bad. Wish we could have brought him back, but oh well.
