Good signing! Waiting for "Mariota Era” to emerge on the board though.

The backup QB is the most popular athlete in Philadelphia.

Stay tuned for guys to criticize Hurts and call for Mariota to start.

Really?  Did I miss something last season?

Was it the six sacks he took against New Orleans?

How about the zero wins when he filled in for Hurts?

The four fumbles in those two loser games?

Mariota is no Joe Montana, but to have strong opinion between the two?  Hopefully you'll never see Mariota start a game, but based on what Minshew did when he was here, it couldn't be significantly worse.

Mariota sucks so bad, that for the 1st time ever- NO Eagles fan will want him to start over Hurts- even when Hurts is hurt. 🤣

Upgrade from Minshew at the very least.

Running read option defenses will actually have to respect that Marcus might keep it instead of all jamming down on the back.

The hope is that he can still keep the lead up and not F up after the backups have been put in

I approve.

Honestly this guy fits this system more than other options. Keep the Chip Kelly shots going guys. I’m loving it. 😂🤣😂

Satan and Lucifer are at #2 and #3, after Chip Kelly on TATE. LOL. I kind of liked the guy because he drafted  Lane Johnson, and Zach Ertz.

I don’t know. I kind of feel like all three are the same person. 😂

I mean sure it makes a bit of sense. You don’t need to change the play book if he needs to play. He’s not terrible and as a back up he’s pretty good.

OK.  He will likely do no worse than the 1-3 record that Minshew gave us as a starter.

Like i said, there's really no reason to get excited over either of two players on our roster.

Oh I’m Vee did I miss something last season?!??! Go lick mariotas bum hole

I like making jokes about everything on the internet, especially sports. I don't take the internet seriously- ever.
So I'll be serious for 0.2 seconds.... Mariota isn't a terrible choice for BACKUP QB. He can still run when he
gets into trouble, which is more than a LOT of backup QB's can do. Not a bad move, really.

Adds a good camp arm and as already mentioned can run the plays Minshew was not a threat to. I had no problem keeping Minshew and he ultimately signed for less, but now if we have a big lead in the 4th quarter, our read options should be way more effective than if Minshew was closing out the game.

I wonder if the Eagles would have kept Minshew if he wanted to stay? He was always going to go somewhere he had an opportunity to start. And that wasn’t here.

I like that we don't necessarily need to change the entire playbook if we need to play the backup. This makes him the better option over Minshew in my opinion.

Minshew is walking right into the same situation he was in at Jacksonville. The Colts will certainly draft their guy of the future. Minshew will be tasked with helping him along. His best chance of getting a chance to start is to showcase himself as an injury replacement. He's currently a QB2 and that's what NFL teams view him as. If he really wanted to increase his chance for an opportunity, he should have signed to become Tagovailoa's or Garoppolo's backup.

It’s possible he didn’t have those options. I think Minshew just got what he could get.

Unlike Minshew, Mariota was actually able to win some games last year.

Wait, does this mean that Howie won't be asking Wentz to come back?

I don’t think Mariota is buttfumble and besides he can take a knee with the best of them. Hopefully he only has to come in games when the Eagles are blowing other teams out or when their resting their starters for the playoffs.

Not gonna lie I was secretly hoping to see Wentz come in here as our version of Taysom Hill. 😂

Just a reminder of how much of a F*** Chip Kelly was:

Looked through some highlights. And to be clear, I did this rather than looking through cuts for a reason. I wanted to see upside since we have Brian Johnson here, and how much he helped out Hurts. What I personally think is that this is a very good move. Some anon NFL execs wrote about Mariota, and a lot of them say that his issues stem from being overly conservative with the ball. I think having a set of coaches that are notably aggressive along with our system which likes the zone read a lot, but not as much as Kelly did will definitely help make things easier on him if he has to play.

Naturally, him not having to play is better, but we're the team that won the Super Bowl with a backup QB so hey. We think about it differently.

I just hope he'll learn from Hurts how to protect himself.

Minshew got 3.5m at Indy. Mariota has to be worth 1.5m more and fits our Offense much better

The hope should be if Hurts misses a few games, that he can win one or two of them.

What's not to like?

We went from a barely average passer, below average runner to a average passer and above average runner.

Mariota>Minshew
