Justin Evans

The Philadelphia Eagles will be signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints safety Justin Evans, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Evans was a Bucs second-round pick (50th overall) in 2017 out of Texas A&M. He had a productive rookie season in 2017 (in the stat sheet, at least), when he had 66 tackles, 3 INTs, and 6 pass breakups. However, his career has since been derailed by injuries.

• In 2017, he was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury, and he missed the last 2 games of the regular season.

• In 2018, he missed six games with a toe injury, once again landing on injured reserve to finish the season.

• In 2019, he missed the entirety of the season with an Achilles injury.

• In 2020, he started training camp on the PUP list, and was waived in December with a failed physical designation.

• In 2021, he wasn't on an NFL roster.

• In 2022, he signed with the Saints and played in 15 games, starting four. He missed the last two games with a shoulder injury.

Evans will have a chance to show what he can do in Eagles training camp, but he probably should not be penciled in just yet as a starting replacement for either Chauncey Gardner-Johnson or Marcus Epps.

Injury-prone seems to the theme of this year's free agency haul.

Ewwwww……

We still have the draft and plenty of time to trade. Not worried.

Kempski’s last line says it all … don’t rush to pencil him in for a starting role.  I’m sure adding him is just throwing a cheap body into the competition.

Unfortunately this offseason has been more about mitigating losses than improving.  I get it but I said elsewhere a bit of a bummer

Went all in for a championship last year and came up this short.  Expect a "down year” or 2 (not thinking 4-5 win seasons … still think they’ll be competitive but perhap not championship worthy) while they try to get the cap in better shape and reload the roster with young talent with all the picks they’ll have (more so next year).  They just need to (1) hope they continue a recent trend of hitting on a higher % of picks and (2) not piss away draft picks on short term rentals (Quinn) unless they plan to sign them longer term (could have been CJGJ).

I mean he’s got a good chance to make the roster and even start due to the current Safety situation. But it’s not one to get excited about really.

I don't see it that way, really at all. They basically have the same offense and the defense might not drop off that much. We need to get it in the next couple of years. Three years from now, with the Hurts contract in effect, can we afford Devonta? Kelce and L Johnson will be gone, Bradberry and Slay probably too. We don't have a ton of sure fire young players. If we don't draft well (this includes the unprovens like Davis, Dean, and Jurgens), we are in big trouble.

Looks like a camp body.

I think he’s more than that. He played like 40% of the snaps for a pretty good Saints D last year. I think if he can stay healthy he has a chance to play a lot of snaps.
