2nd year players are going to have to really bump up their games.

What about the 3rd and 4th year players, are any sitll on the squad that's worth a damn?

KC had a heck of a draft last year and that can't be discounted but we lost that game because of the turf, not preparing for the turf and having the right spikes on and a defensive coordinator who makes no adjustments.

Sirianni did some things that have been considered one of the reasons why the eagles suffered so few injuries last year.   The off days for vets, less hitting during the week and a few other things that people were questioning would be effective.

Injuries are an unpredictable thing but fatigue can have a compromising effect on players during a long season.

Maybe the eagles veterans and guys like Penny and Evans will benefit from Sirianni's methods.  Plus Penny is not going to be required to carry a major load with RBs the eagles have.

I don't have a problem with signing guys with an injury history to "prove it" contracts.  It's low risk, possible high reward moves that are necessary in this cap strapped environment.

Injuries are part of the game and roster depth is so important.  I think the eagles do a great job at building depth and keeping guys game ready.

I really hope so and this game is spot on. Nick and the training staff , along with the conditioning coaches , medical staff do an excellent job. As of last year it kept the roster healthy. However, most of those players who left were here since Nicks first year so they didn’t need to practice as much because they knew the system and the fundamentals of what the coaches were asking. Now on defense we have so many new players along with a new coaching staff we need to practice more and evaluate our players together as a whole to jell. We can’t keep players for rest days like we did last season because it’s so new to everyone on defense.

The offense will be able to because this is year 3 and we only have 2 new starters but Kenny Gainwell was here and Jurgens knows the offense completely. You can allow Kelce, Cox, BG, Dickerson, Lane, Mailata, Goedert, AJ, Smith rest and allow the younger players to practice more , gain more reps in practice and develop our younger players on offense.

On defense we don’t really have the luxury because it’s a complete new defense, a ton of new starters and the chemistry needs to grow each and every day.

Howie has done what Howie tends to do. He’s added to this roster and he’s removed the need for this team to be desperate. This team shouldn’t need to reach in the draft and should be able to go BPA in the draft due to the FA moves.

I agree the defense is new and reps are necessary.  But I think Sirianni will continue with this regiment.  There were alot of new guys last year too, Bradberry, CjGJ, White, Reddick, Davis, Suh and Joseph.....so I don't think having a new DC and scheme will change Sirianni's thinking.

Players develop at different rates and sometimes a different coordinator and his scheme can bring the best out in a player.....or they just don't fit in anymore.  Eagles seem to be filling the roster pretty well but it all boils down to how well the new coordinators utilize the talent at hand.

Some players are highly athletic but never reach their expected potential....some guys are workout warriors and are smart that overachieve.  Derek Barnett is a good example.  Crazy athletic and dominant in college, but has never come close to being what they thought he would be.  He has flashes, but then disappears for long stretches....and makes bad decisions.

That’s why I think Howie trades back again. He’s brought himself time to make a run for this season and pile up more draft capital for later seasons. I can easily see Howie trading back from 10 to try and get another first for 2024 and still possibly using one of these first in 2023 to trade for a player or draft someone we least expect.

I think overall so far, Howie and the Eagles have done "okay".  Better than widely expected, at least.  They've minimized the damage of loss as best they feasibly could and have added some replacements that can hopefully "maintain" a certain level of play.

That said, there hasn't been a "needle mover" type of move if we're supposed to be looking at how this team can do the one thing they couldn't get done last year.  Not sure if it can be done, but I'd really like to see some kind of splash move (aka, a needle mover) before the season starts.  Would almost certainly have to come via trade...which probably can't happen until during the draft or after the draft so they can use 2024 draft picks as compensation.

Our new WLB Nick looks far better in coverage than any LB we have had in a long time. He has footwork in his zone drops. He is fast and as fluid for a linebacker I have ever seen in an Eagles uniform. Cap me all you want. His back pedal is as fluid as most safety’s. He recognizes inside routes and drives to the ball. He has incredible acceleration driving to the football. He has way better coverage skills than Kyzir White ever had.

He’s extremely smart and that’s obvious when it comes through in his press conferences. I’m talking about not just his Eagles press conference but his Bears conferences as well. This kid is extremely impressive. He may be a better sub package player but I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins a full time job. The was he deciphers information is impressive. I’m encouraged by this signing.

Greedy Williams - one of my favorite CBS coming out of college from LSU. I told you the Eagles would have significant interest. He is a great zone corner that is great at attacking the ball in the air. He has excellent length and very good recovery speed. He isn’t extremely physical but he definitely tackles better than Darius Slay. I know that may not seem like much lol 😂. Learning from two of the best playmaking CBS in this decade will be instrumental to his developmental. I feel very good about our cornerback group as a whole.

Marcus Mariota - People say he had a terrible year just didn’t watch the falcons play. He had absolutely nothing to throw to. Drake London and that’s it. Kyle Pitts wasn’t apart of the offense. Yet he made the Falcons competitive. He never had an offensive line or a collection of weapons/scheme that benefits his play. He still is a top 32 QB. He’s better than Baker, Sam Howell, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Kenny Pickett, and he was better than Desmond Ridder, with the talent he has he could be a top 23 QB.  I think this was a excellent signing.

Rashad Penny to me was a bad signing. He can’t be projected as the starting back. He is never healthy. He can’t be relied on the be our top back. It’s too big of a "What If”. I know he’s talented , i know he is a physical presence. He could be our best pick up. He could also be cut before the season starts. Hopefully Howie Roseman attacks the RB position again in the draft. I know it’s low risk high reward but history is not on his side.

Justin Evans - when he was in college he was amazing. He was a top talent that flashed all over for A&M . He went to the Bucs and he started a solid rookie year. After that injuries plagued his career. Achilles , turf toe, ankle issues stole his promise. He moved on to the Saints and played in the slot and SS. To be honest I don’t remember his name being called against us in week 17. However if he has the same explosiveness he’s definitely a strong possibility to start and restart his career. If he lost his explosiveness he may not even make the 53. I root for him but I don’t put a huge amount of faith into him. Another low risk high reward type player.

Hopefully we can add some interior DTs that are also low risk/ High rewards and maybe some decent depth players along at OT. So when we head into the draft we can just get BPA

Notice there's a recurring theme of injury plagued or players that haven't lived up to expectations. This is Howie's specialty. We're the home of Second Chances. That's how Howie is able to get fairly promising players at sometimes bargain prices.

As for BPA it's very possible that come pick 10 BPA will be Bijan Robinson 🤷‍♂️

Even if he is there‘s no chance we pick him there. If he falls to 30, maybe. But not at 10.

I need more information about Marcus. When they 13 games had as many TDs as Daniel Jones level play. He had a rookie WR and a 6th rounnd rookie RB and a bunch of UDFA WRs he was throwing too. He had the Falcons playing well in the beginning and they veered off around midway through the season. The Falcons played ball control because they haf absolutley no talent or speed for his weapons The damn offensive playcalling never utilized Kyle Pitts at all. They play calling was exactly like what the Titans do. Yet they never had the type of back to run the offense they were running once Patterson got injured..

If he had our weapons and line I’ll say it again he would have taken us to the playoffs too. I don’t get the hate you have for him. He had some had some bad moments that got highlighted. You’re just looking at the play where he fell and made a bad decision . Stop with the 🧢
Youwant to love the guy who is never on the active roster because he’s always injured? He’s way worse than what Miles Sanders was with injuries in his first 3 years. Penny got a 1 million dollar deal for a reason. Stop watching just the highlights and start watching the full picture.  You can’t trust a guy like that.  Greedy Williams started a lot and they had Ward and the Newsome who both are elite level players on the outside. He can’t play inside and he got injured so the Browns drafted Newsome , you can never have enough talent at corner. I never said he would be a star. You got your opinions and we can agree to disagree we will find out what happens during the year and find out who’s right and who’s wrong.

I like your points but with Penny you might look at it the wrong way: He doesn‘t need to be the lead back. If he only plays 50% of the time and plays really well I‘d already consider his contract to be of great value.

Suh and Joseph had extremely limited roles and were not asked to play much re than 15-20 snaps and their roles were clear as day, along with the fact they never played multiple positions. So it’s not a fair assumption. They also played for basically 2 decades of football so it wouldn’t be fair for these younger guys who are coming in wide eyed. They seen it all. Just like Bradberry, Slay , Cox, BG, and Reddick. They all have played at least 6 season. Multiple defenses. Terminology is the only difference. So they will be okay.

We are going to have some real inexperienced players though. However they also need chemistry and communication with the defensive calls.  It may take a quarter of the season to actually feel comfortable playing together.

Going a little off topic, but, I wonder why they didn’t bring back Suh. I think he can still contribute to the Defense, no? Or maybe they give him a call mid-season to come back?

You don’t have to sign su or joseph now as they are not priority free agents.  You bring them in after training camp or later if the young guys aren’t cutting it. They also need rest, limited playing time and a short season to be effective at their age.

We'll see. But Siri and Howie have said the scheme will basically be the same with Desai.

Yeah I don’t think it’s going to be all that different. Maybe some different looks and hopefully a little more creativity but mostly the same. And whilst as fans we don’t like it there is sense to it given they’ve built a defense mostly to play that kind of style.

Unless Siri forbids pressure packages, I expect Desai to not be paralyzed by fear the way Gannon was. I expect him to call a blitz when it's needed. I hope he meets my expectations.
