Zeke is all used up like Murray was years back when we made the mistake of signing him. I don't even know why they even do second contracts on backs there as they are mostly finished after 3 to 4 years of heavy use. If the eagles sign him they better have a time machine to roll him back 4 or 5 years when he was pretty much an automatic first down on 3rd and 3 or 4. Demarco Murray had at least one more good year with the Titans after Chip Kelly couldn't figure out that he wasn't an east-west sweep type runner. That being said - no thanks to Elliot.

The mistake Chip made with Murray was trading McCoy because he was always bouncing outside rather than hitting the hole, then acquiring Murray to run downhill but telling Evan Mathis to suck it for a new contract, which meant he now needed Murray to bounce outside, because Matt Tobin and Allen Barbre sucked and he didn't draft a Guard in the 2015 draft despite shopping Mathis pre draft knowing he was asking for a new contract or release.

Guys you’re using WAAAYYY too many words to just say Chip Kelly sucks!
March 28, 20232 yr He’s a good pass blocker, that may be worth 1 yr 1m. But I don’t know if that justifies a roster spot over Scott or X-round rookie

I’d rather they just go out there and draft a back no later than the second round than put all our hopes on a guy the 49ers sent packing and couldn’t really make the Eagles roster.

I don't think they are putting "all of [their] hopes" on Sermon. I think Howie knew Sanders would be gone after 2022, knew we were short on picks this year, and wanted to keep Sermon around for the upcoming season to throw into the mix to serve as a placeholder (and with further evaluation possibly a larger role). While I wouldn't rule out completely that we draft a RB this year I think it more likely we add to the RB room with some undrafted free agents unless he adds more day 2-3 picks via trades.

I don’t want Howie to overthink this and add some late round running back who just can’t play. Get the talent earlier like they did with Sanders even though he was a flawed running back. The Tre Sermon’s and UDFAs of the world aren’t good enough to give the ball to over Jalen Hurts.

Well I don’t know how good he is or could be. And they better not draft an RB before the 4th round, they have to many other needs. Sermon wasn’t going to play last season, I know that. He has/had 3 RB’s ahead of him, that the Eagles trusted, on the roster. All I’m saying is, give him a shot and see what he has.

You don’t waste a roster spot all year to protect a player without having a certain level of belief in him and and giving him a shot.

I don't disagree with this. But that being said, to be consistent, you have to give Ian Book the same consideration. Like with Sermon, the Eagles kept Book on the active roster all year, apparently fearful that if they waived him in an attempt to then put him on the practice squad, another team would claim him.

Guessing he’ll compete with Mariota for the backup spot? I’m sure Mariota has a leg up only because he’s been in the league for much longer but would it come as a complete surprise if he doesn’t play well? Not that I expect anything from Book … never quite understood the move to add him.

My guess is that they want Book to solidly earn the third spot with the idea that he could elevate to the primary backup spot the following year.
