April 18, 20232 yr On the form he said his wife did not earn an income. His wife earned over $600,000. Fraud.
April 19, 20232 yr Wait, hold on, you're telling me that a politician is corrupt?! Yeah right, next thing you're going to try tell me is that fish breathe water.....

We've always known politicians to be corrupt, but SCOTUS judges? Ya, that would be a bit more notable, dontcha think?

April 19, 20232 yr I get the pinkos are drooling at the idea of putting another non-biologist in the court, but this is the one place we cannot tolerate even a little corruption.

It's lazy to paint all judges and even politicians as corrupt. It's even worse to see clear corruption where it ought not be and say "well what do you expect" as though we should just let it all go. At one point in our history damning evidence of corruption was enough to wound, sometimes mortally, a politicians career. Corruption in a SC Justice would be cause for impeachment. Lazily resorting to the cynicism of "they're all corrupt" normalizes behavior we should be demanding a resolution for. Seems nowadays we demand more honor from refugees seeking asylum than supreme court justices.

Nobody is deluded enough to think we'd ever get two thirds of the Senate to get on board with ousting Thomas. But yeah, a little corruption in the land's highest court would kinda be a big deal. Not that it would be at all surprising given in this case what we already know about his absolute psycho of a wife.

I think every politician that have ever been the least bit corrupt should be shown the door and face major consequences.

My comment was more along the lines of not being surprised that anyone involved in our government might be corrupt.
April 19, 20232 yr Just now, BFit said: My comment was more along the lines of not being surprised that anyone involved in our government might be corrupt. That's fair, corruption is everywhere. But it's frustrating when society is more motivated to outrage over refugees and drag queens than a SC Justice getting funneled a LOT of money by political agents, and making conscious effort to keep it hidden.

No but he is appointed by people who are elected. Also, if you're involved in the government, it's just easier to call you a politician. If you want, I'll change my original post to say, "government official" if you'd like....

April 19, 20232 yr Judges ought to be held to a higher standard than politicians. Politicians can be voted out by the people. Judges can only be impeached by the same political bodies that appointed them.

I mean, sure, but SCOTUS judges were always held to a much higher standard and it would be fairly notable if there were actual cases of documented corruption. Historically speaking, yes it would be surprising.
