Howard Eskin: 'Eagles will absolutely not take a RB at No. 10'

Howard Eskin is doubling down, stating firmly that the Philadelphia Eagles will not take a running back with the No. 10 overall pick.

"They will absolutely not draft a running back at number 10," Eskin said on Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show. "That would be an awful pick at number 10."

Last week Eskin said he would be "beyond shocked" if the Philadelphia Eagles selected a running back with the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft.

"They're not going to draft a running back at 10," The King told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie on last week's 94WIP Morning Show. "I would be beyond shocked, beyond shocked. It's so ridiculous."

"What about 30?" Ritchie asked.

"I think they may trade back and get some more draft picks," Eskin said just one day after returning from NFL Owners' Meetings in Arizona. "You can get a running back in the third or fourth round. Everybody says, 'Oh they're a running team.' No they're not! You pass to win. And Jeffrey Lurie made that point and he makes that point because that is what the coaches do. You get a lead, you win and then you run the ball. Now they have to have the run as part of their game. But no, that is not something that came—the draft stuff almost nothing came up [at the Owners' Meetings]. It's player movement, it's the rules that never change that they tried to change."

Eskin, the Eagles' radio sideline reporter on 94WIP, is well plugged in with the team and has been for years. Earlier in the offseason, he correctly reported that Brandon Graham would likely be returning to the team a few days before BG signed a one-year deal.

The big shiny name that continues to entice Eagles fans and media members is Texas RB Bijan Robinson. The Eagles, who own picks 10 and 30 in round one this year, had a pre-draft visit with Robinson last week.

Robinson, 21, is largely considered one of the five best football players in this year's draft, but the value of drafting running backs early is always debatable.

Robinson played three seasons at Texas, culminating in his 2022 Junior season where he rushed for 1,580 yards on 258 carries (6.1 avg) and 18 touchdowns, while also catching 19 balls for 314 yards and two more touchdowns.

Robinson recorded a 4.46 40-yard dash (86th percentile) and a 108.7 speed score (89th percentile), according to playerprofiler.com.

This offseason, the Eagles lost starting RB Miles Sanders to free-agency (signed a 4-year, $25 million deal with the Panthers). They re-signed RB Boston Scott to a 1-year, $2 million deal and brought in Seahawks free-agent RB Rashaad Penny on a 1-year deal worth up to about $2 million.

With Kenneth Gainwell also under contract, the Eagles' top three running backs on their depth chart are making less than $5 million combined in 2023.

Now I hope they draft Bijan at 10.

3rd round is the earliest to consider RBs
