Posted April 23, 20232 yr Coud Derrick Henry Be Heading To The Eagles? One NFL Analyst Says Its DONE Pat Egan April 22nd Could Howie Roseman be prepared to steal another star from Tennessee? According to one NFL analyst that IS whats happening. Former Packer Akbar Gbajabiamila tweeted out late Friday night "BREAKING: Move out the way, Derrick Henry is headed to the Eagles” But before you go buying your Derrick Henry Eagles jersey here is some food for thought. Gbajabiamila is not known for breaking news. He does serve as an analyst for the NFL Network but his primary job is as host of the NBC show "America Ninja Warrior.” BUT where it gets interesting is Gbajabiamila shares an agency with Henry. So maybe he would have more inside info than others. The other thing that gives this some credence is the fact that the tweet is so matter of fact. Its not Gbajabiamila speculating a move. Its Gbajabiamila saying it with his chest. All of this is to say, take it with a grain of salt until someone like Adam Schefter tweets it out. But MAN would this be incredible. Adding Derrick Henry to this offense would be hell for opposing defenses. "King Henry” has led the league in carries 3 times during his career but hes still extremely productive. He rushed for 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns behind an offensive line that isnt anywhere near the caliber of the Eagles. He comes with a $16 million dollar cap hit and is a free agent after this season. https://975thefanatic.com/2023/04/22/coud-derrick-henry-be-heading-to-the-eagles-one-nfl-analyst-says-its-done/
April 24, 20232 yr It’s all gone very quiet since this started doing the rounds so I’m going to go ahead and say it isn’t happening.

I don't think it happens either (for many reasons). While none of the articles can claim to know with certainty what will happen, this one contradicts the Egan "report". https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2023/4/23/23694736/eagles-news-derrick-henry-trade-philly-wont-be-happening-running-back-titans-nfl-rumors-rb
April 24, 20232 yr This move didn't make any sense when I first saw this "report". If we hadn't signed Penny, it would have been more believable. But we aren't signing Penny and trading for Henry. The Eagles will likely draft a RB to add to the mix this year...even though I don't think that is 100% certain.

My caveat to that is they aren’t payin Penny much and he can’t be relied upon to stay healthy. I think the Penny signing doesn’t really make a big difference other than there’s hope he can be productive.

With how they operate at RB, there's no chance they'd make 2 veteran moves at this point (prior to the draft and training camp)...especially with one costing a lot of money (and trade compensation). I agree Penny can't be relied upon to stay healthy...which is why they will likely add another player at some point (draft or summer cuts, etc). Now, pending how things shake out by August and if it makes some sense at the time, I could see them taking a swing on Henry at that point if the trade compensation is really low.
April 24, 20232 yr Can't see the eagles trading for that contract.....and I can't see them renegotiating an extension with a 29 year old RB....... I'm sure they could get him for a song because of it, I just don't see any logic in it......

While I obviously have my questions about the report, it's not for the reasons you cite. Eagles prefer a RB by committee approach, and there's no reason why they wouldn't carry two bruisers on the game day roster.

See I mostly agree with you but I think things are going to change. I’m not sure Henry is going to play next year on his current contract so there may be some manoeuvring done there. And whilst he is a veteran with miles on the clock I still think he’s got a lot to offer, especially a team who aren’t going to run him in to the ground every week.

IF there was any interest (I'm sure there is interest in Henry ... why wouldn't there be, he's a stud ... but I also don't think they have interest in his contract or coughing up any picks in a year where we only have 6), the smart move would be to wait until after the draft when he could probably be had "cheaper" (regarding draft pick compensation) and would involve dealing a 2024 pick where we are projected to have 12. Either way, I don't see this happening.
